Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Ferrari, Nesta and Rivas to start against Philadelphia There is an old expression in sports that goes: defence wins championships. If that’s true, then the Montreal Impact may have found the recipe for its future success. After a solid defensive performance against the New York Red Bulls last Saturday, with the likes of Alessandro Nesta making his MLS debut, and Nelson Rivas returning from injury, the Impact will add to its dominance by starting all three of its former Serie A defenders for the first time Saturday versus Philadelphia http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/08/rivas-ferrari-and-nesta-start-against-philadelphia

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Montreal trade GK Ricketts to Portland for Perkins Two of the leakiest teams in MLS now have new goalkeepers. The Portland Timbers swapped goalkeepers with the Montreal Impact on Tuesday, sending Troy Perkins to the expansion club in exchange for Donovan Ricketts in one of the most high-profile goalkeeper trades in league history. The move for the Timbers is seemingly motivated by on-field considerations and cap management. “Troy has been an important player for us, but we as a coaching staff saw this as an opportunity to improve the position, while optimizing our budget numbers in 2012 and 2013," Timbers GM and interim manager Gavin Wilkinson said. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...l-trade-gk-ricketts-portland-exchange-perkins
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Impact coaches feel familiar face Perkins will add stability MONTREAL – Most Montreal Impact players and staff will have to get used to a new face in the coming days, but Impact head coach Jesse Marsch and assistant Mike Sorber already know full well what they're getting in recently acquired goalkeeper Troy Perkins. After all, both Marsch and Sorber got to know and esteem Perkins – whom the Portland Timbers traded to the Impact for goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts on Tuesday – during their time as assistants to Bob Bradley with the US national team. Sorber sees Perkins as a solid technical goalkeeper with experience, good hands and an ability to come off his line – a more “by-the-book” goalkeeper than Ricketts, who is a “big play” ‘keeper, Marsch observed. Furthermore, both men feel Perkins' professionalism and on-field qualities will add stability to their team. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...feel-familiar-face-perkins-will-add-stability

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Milestone First Canadian club to win 11 games The Montreal Impact may be on the outside looking in to a playoff spot right now, but the team’s recent success has it closing in on more than just the post season, but a few milestones as well. First Canadian side to win 11 games With Saturday’s 3-1 win over San Jose, the Impact has become the first Canadian side to ever hit the 11-win plateau in Major League Soccer, surpassing the 10 victories Toronto FC picked up in 2009, and the 10 Vancouver has matched so far this season. The Impact is also one victory shy of the top win totals for expansion teams in the new expansion era of MLS (since 2005), following the contraction of the Tampa Bay Mutiny and the Miami Fusion. Seattle managed 12 victories in 2009 http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/08/montreal-looks-hit-few-milestones-inaugural-season
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Here We Come Impact down DC for 5th straight win, move within reach of playoffs The 2012 expansion side won their fifth straight league match and moved to within a point of D.C. United for the fifth and final playoff spot in the East with a 3-0 victory over United in front of a sell-out crowd on a hot Saturday afternoon at Stade Saputo. Designated Player Marco Di Vaio netted his third goal of the season on a classy finish and captain Patrice Bernier netted a brace after the break to secure the victory over a D.C. team which decided to rest reigning league MVP Dwayne De Rosario and leading scorer Chris Pontius during the first half. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-08-25-mtl-v-dc/highlights

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Impact's Patrice Bernier named August Player of the Month "I am very pleased to have received this honor, but it is foremost a team reward for the success we've had throughout the last month," Bernier said in a statement from the club. "However, our team must continue to work and push hard to earn a playoff spot." Bernier's impressive August took him to nine goals and eight assists over 21 games in his and the Impact's inaugural MLS campaign. "Patrice is very deserving of this honor," Impact head coach Jesse Marsch said in the statement. "We know that he will continue his good form down the stretch and will help us make a final push for the playoffs." Bernier narrowly edged out Seattle's Fredy Montero for the award. Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Impact, Sporting battle to rain-soaked draw MONTREAL — Neither the Impact nor Sporting Kansas City could find a goal on a damp Saturday afternoon at Stade Saputo, both teams having to settle for a share of the points. Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen comfortably picked up his league-leading 14th shutout, and the club extended its unbeaten streak to eight games. The Eastern Conference leaders are now five points clear at the top of the table, having earned five points in a three-games-in-eight-days stretch. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-09-22-mtl-v-skc/recap
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Recap: Dramatic draw stings Dynamo, eliminates Impact HOUSTON – It was death by counterattack for the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night, as a 66th-minute lapse led to a Sanna Nyassi goal and the Montreal Impact’s share of the spoils on a costly night for both teams in a 1-1 draw at BBVA Compass Stadium. Marco Di Vaio, who took over the playmaking duties in the absence of the injured Felipe, played a sublime turn and through ball to Nyassi, who was persistent cleaning up his own rebound to stun the home crowd and erase an early Houston lead off the foot of Dynamo forward Will Bruin. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-10-06-hou-v-mtl/recap
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Impact's Marsch mulling over approach to final two games MONTREAL – With two games remaining and the playoffs out of sight, most clubs would be tempted to simply give minutes to hard-working players who have not received much playing time. That's not the case for the Montreal Impact, who were only eliminated from playoff contention last weekend. A heated derby with archrivals Toronto FC and a home curtain call against the New England Revolution lie ahead for the Impact and both matches are significant for next season. Montreal head coach Jesse Marsch admits that fielding a few of the seldom-used players this season has crossed his mind. “But we also have to make sure that we’re not cheating on what we’re doing this year,” Marsch told reporters on Wednesday. “It’s a delicate balance, and we’re going to figure out how we’re going to get through all that in the next couple of weeks.” Two objectives remain for Montreal: leaving a good impression on their supporters ahead of 2013, and capturing the first seed for next year’s Amway Canadian Championship. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...-marsch-mulling-over-approach-final-two-games
Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Post Season Training tour in Italy Friendlies scheduled against ACF Fiorentina and Bologna FC ACF Fiorentina website (http://en.violachannel.tv/) Bologna FC website (http://www.bolognafc.it/) MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Friday that the team will embark on a training tour of Italy at the conclusion of the MLS regular season schedule, set for November 5-17, 2012. The Impact will play a minimum of two friendlies against Serie A opponents (first division). The club will face off against Bologna FC on November 8 at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara and ACF Fiorentina on November 15 at Stadio Artemio Franchi. Tickets for both games will be available. The team will also take part in a weekly training schedule. “This trip will give us the opportunity to extend our season by three weeks and cut down on the down time prior to the opening of training camp for the 2013 season,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. “We would like to thank the two clubs for giving us the opportunity to organize these games, despite the fact that they are in midseason of their championships. This trip will also help us forge a stronger relationship with two prestigious organizations and could open doors for players wishing to play in North America one day.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/10/montreal-impact-tour-italy-end-season
