Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Academy update: U21s unbeaten this winter New opportunities for younger players The Montreal Impact Academy is well-represented this year at the preseason camp for the club’s pro team in Major League Soccer, but that means the U21 side has been forced to make changes. Not only has former U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy and Academy goalkeeper coach Youssef Dahha joined the first team’s coaching staff, but some of the U21s’ core group of players from last year are knocking on the door, including defender Karl W. Ouimette, who earned a contract midseason in 2012, along with midfielder Wandrille Lefevre, left-back Maxim Tissot and forward Mircea Ilcu. All three are showing well in Florida, while goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, midfielder Zakaria Messoudi and forward Anthony Jackson-Hamel are with the Canadian U20 national team looking to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/02/academy-update-u21s-unbeaten-winter

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal FC) Impact wins second straight on the road with a 2-1 win over Portland PORTLAND, Oregon – A spectacular overhead volley by defender Hassoun Camara and an insurance marker by Felipe was enough to lift the Impact to a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers on Saturday, at JELD-WEN Field, in Portland. With its second consecutive victory on away from Stade Saputo, the Impact has managed to equal its win total on the road from all of last season and is 2-0 in 2013. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/ne...ns-second-straight-road-2-1-win-over-portland
Impact Wins Second Straight on the Road with a 2-1 Win over Portland A spectacular overhead volley by defender Hassoun Camara and an insurance marker by Felipe was enough to lift the Impact to a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers on Saturday, at JELD-WEN Field, in Portland. With its second consecutive victory on away from Stade Saputo, the Impact has managed to equal its win total on the road from all of last season and is 2-0 in 2013. The Impact took the lead 30 minutes into the first half with a highlight reel goal by defender Hassoun Camara for his first of the season. Following a ball that was played into the box, fellow back liner Matteo Ferrari managed to beat his marker near the half circle with an outstretched foot, flicking the ball over towards Camara five yards to his right. The Frenchmen's overhead volley with his back towards goal drifted passed Timbers' goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts to his right. Then in the second half, Brazilian midfielder Felipe doubled his team's lead in the 60th minute. After winning a ball near the centre circle, 2012 Team MVP Patrice Bernier played a long through ball to substitute Andres Romero, making his Impact debut. Romero chased the ball all the way to the goal line down the right flank, playing a back pass towards the six yard box where Felipe beat Ricketts short side, to his left. Portland got one back in the 80th minute when midfielder Ben Zemanski played a long cross to the second post from deep down the right flank that found forward Ryan Johnson, sliding to beat Perkins from just inside the six yard box. Quotes "We didn't come in here and steal the three points tonight," said Impact head coach Marco Schallibaum. "We were solid defensively and had a lot of help from our midfield. It was a difficult and tight game, but we responded well." "We return home with two wins on the road," said Bernier. "Winning away takes a lot of character. We have continued to progress defensively. We haven't given up a goal from the middle, so that's another positive for us." "I think this team believes that we have a team to get results on the road," noted captain Davy Arnaud. "We created some really good scoring chances and we played a good team game tonight." More highlights After holding off pressure from Portland early on, Andrea Pisanu played a quick throw in down the right flank to forward Marco Di Vaio in the 8th minute. Di Vaio then played a short, lateral ball inside to Felipe from near the right corner of the box, but the Brazilian's low, one-timer rolled just wide of the far post. Three minutes later, Pisanu found a ball 10 yards from the corner flag that he chipped over the Timbers defenders towards Di Vaio who was all alone near the penalty spot. The Impact's DP did well to get a head on it, but Timbers' keeper Donovan Ricketts made an acrobatic save, diving to his left. Goalkeeper Troy Perkins, who was playing his former team, made a key stop in the 27th minute when he slid to block Johnson's shot after he came in alone on goal. Ten minutes later, he blocked a hard blast from 25 yards out by Darlington Nagbe. Again in the 66th minute, he frustrated Andrew Baptiste from in close. Second half sub Collen Warner came close in the 87th minute following a scramble in the box, but Ricketts managed to get a hand on the ball despite being out of position. Next Game The team heads back to Montreal to host Toronto FC in its home opener at Olympic Stadium - #16mars16h - on Saturday, March 16 at 4pm (ET). Re: Impact Wins Second Straight on the Road with a 2-1 Win over Portland How big is Montreal vs. Toronto? A new supporters record will be set Saturday “We absolutely expect to beat that record on Saturday,” Toronto FC senior director of business operations Paul Bierne told MLSsoccer.com by phone on Monday afternoon. “We worked with the front office in Montreal to arrange for a special allotment of tickets to be made available to TFC fans. As a result, over 5,000 tickets have been requested. We’ll see how many actually travel to Montreal. After this week’s win against Sporting Kansas City, I expect it will be a good solid number.” “Montreal is a team that we always want to beat,” former TFC captain and current assistant coach Jim Brennan told MLSsoccer.com. “The two cities are quite close. We have different cultures. When it comes to any sport, we always want to get one up on Montreal. We think we are the big city, which we are, the one where everything happens. I don’t think they can handle that.” Added Impact assistant coach and former player Mauro Biello: “It’s always an important game for us. It’s always a little bit more than only a soccer game. It’s always about proving which team is the best in Canada, every single time we face each other.” http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...to-new-supporters-record-will-be-set-saturday

Impact Wins 2-1 in Home Opener Versus Toronto FC The Impact extends its unbeaten streak to start the season to three games, beating Toronto FC in its home opener 2-1 on Saturday, in front of 37,896 spectators at Olympic Stadium. Midfielder Patrice Bernier and forward Marco Di Vaio both scored their first goals of the season. The Impact scored its first goal of the season in the 34th minute when midfielder Andres Romero was taken down in the box, setting up another Patrice Bernier penalty kick. Bernier made no mistake, using his stutter step to beat goalkeeper Joe Bendik to his left. Bernier now is 7 for 7 in his career in MLS from the spot, finding the back of the net in his 30th career game in MLS. Impact forward Marco Di Vaio then doubled the lead in the 45th minute - the culmination of two superb passes. Bernier played a through ball right down midfield from the defensive side of the centre circle that found Davy Arnaud, who became the first Impact player ever to surpass the career 3,000 minutes played mark in MLS with the club. The Impact captain then played a quick through ball to Di Vaio, who made a run behind the TFC defence towards Arnaud's right. The Impact's DP pushed the ball past Bendik, before roofing his shot into an empty goal. Toronto then reduced the lead to one goal in the 68th minute when forward Robert Earnshaw converted a penalty kick of his own, going low to Perkins left. Post-game comments "We had a good first half, but suffered a little in the second half," Impact head coach Marco Schallibaum. "We knew Toronto was a good team and it was not going to be an easy game. We had to make some adjustments in the first half after Alessandro Nesta got hurt and put us off balance for a little while. Then we scored two important goals and we played well. The second half, we suffered, but we fought to the end." "The first half went well. If we kept the same tempo, we could have probably scored another goal but we let them back in the game with a few mistakes," said Bernier. "They put a lot of effort in the second half and they got a penalty that brought them back in. But we are happy that we got the three points." "At the end of the day, I don't care how we win. It's three points and it'' against Toronto," said Perkins. "It's been good. I've really tried to focus on having a good performance and not worry too much about the results. I think we have to keep moving forward in that manner. We have to focus on the performance, and not worry about the results." Other highlights In the game's first few minutes, Di Vaio came close to scoring the opening goal when a long cross field ball was played deep down left flank to Andres Romero. The Argentinean, making his first career start in MLS, played a header back towards the top of the box where Di Vaio hammered a one-time shot with the outside of his foot that forced TFC keeper Joe Bendik into a huge save as the ball threatened to dip underneath the bar at the far post. The Impact had to make an early change as defender Dennis Iapichino came in for Alessandro Nesta, who was forced to leave the game with an injury in the 12th minute. In the 43rd minute, a tic-tac-toe exchange between midfielders Felipe, Andrea Pisanu and Davy Arnaud down the left flank resulted in a cross that curled behind the TFC defence towards Di Vaio, but he could not get enough on the ball as he slid towards goal near the six-yard line. Toronto managed some pressure in the early going of the second half. In the 50th minute, midfielder Hogan Ephraim fired one off the cross bar after he half-volleyed a loose ball at the top of the box. Two minutes later, Earnshaw found a ball inside the half circle of the 18-yard-box, but his low, driving shot was stopped by Perkins, diving to his left, far post. Next Game The Impact will host the New York Red Bulls next Saturday, this Saturday, March 23, at 4:30pm (ET) in its second and final matchup of the season at Olympic Stadium. Then, the team hits the road to face Sporting Kansas City at the newly renamed Sporting Park, in Kansas City, on March 30, at 8:30 pm (ET).

4 matchs, 12 points! L'Impact remporte un quatrième match consécutif! MONTREAL – It was a lesson in divergent fortunes. Montreal, now boasting four straight wins, on one end of the spectrum while New York remained at the opposite, still winless on the young season. The difference between the Impact and Red Bulls on Saturday at Olympic Stadium in a 1-0 victory for the home team was Italian forward Marco Di Vaio, who the assistant referee flagged six times for offside but still made the one perfectly timed run that separated the sides. Di Vaio scored his second goal of the season in the 14th minute, latching onto a Patrice Bernier feed – his his league-leading third game-winning assist this season – and finishing past Red Bulls' goalkeeper Luis Robles. Montreal now sit atop the Eastern Conference table on 12 points, with a difficult match in Kansas City coming up next Saturday. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-03-23-MTL-v-NY/recap
Three for Thursday: Why the perfect Montreal Impact are no fluke There are no two ways about it: The Montreal Impact are easily the best team in MLS after four rounds of matches. At least we think so. They're 4-0-0 heading into Week 5 and sitting atop the Eastern Conference. But some are asking the inevitable question of a team that didn't make the postseason last year: "Are the Impact for real?" Short answer: Yes. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...sday-why-perfect-montreal-impact-are-no-fluke

Rodríguez joins the Impact from Argentinos Juniors of the Primera A (Argentina's first division). He was part of Atlético Madrid's youth academy from 2007-09 before returning to his native Argentina. Academy report: First road trip for Impact U21 Team faced Rhode Island University and UMass The Montreal Impact U21 team opened its 2013 season on the road with a draw and a loss this weekend, trying Rhode Island University 2-2 on Friday evening before falling 1-0 to the University of Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon. The game against Rhode Island saw the Impact create a number of scoring opportunities, resulting in two nicely executed goals by forwards Frédéric Lajoie (5’) and Anthony Jackson-Hamel (43') in the draw. The Impact then played a little too laidback in its matchup against UMass, especially in the first half, losing by a 1-0 score. “I enjoyed watching our team on Friday,” said Impact U21 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “Collectively, we were very consistent and coherent in our movement. However, against UMass we didn’t do enough against an opponent that was there for the taking. Our casual attitude was not the right one to have.” The Impact U21 will play its next game on the road against the University of Vermont on April 21 http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/04/academy-report-first-road-trip-impact-u21
Feeling green in Montreal: Stade Saputo field almost set ahead of opener 15,000 tickets already sold for Saturday's game against Columbus MONTREAL – Thirty-seven 10-wheel trucks full of snow and ice: this is what the Montreal Impact and the Columbus Crew would have played on, had their game scheduled for this Saturday afternoon kicked off last month. The Montreal winter doesn’t seem to know when to let go, but it looks like it is going to cut the Impact some slack. The game will indeed go on in five days’ time at Stade Saputo. The arena’s grass is “75, 80 percent green right now, but was 100 percent white 12 days ago,” pointed out Impact vice-president Richard Legendre. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/ne...al-stade-saputo-field-almost-set-ahead-opener http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=UyGSjArAm3o
Impact Plays Columbus Crew to 1-1 Draw at Stade Saputo The Montreal Impact (4-1-1) and the Columbus Crew (2-1-3) played to a 1-1 draw in the Stade Saputo home opener on Sunday, following a one-day delay due to poor weather conditions. Designated player Marco Di Vaio scored the lone goal for the Impact in the second half. With this tie, the Impact remains first in the Eastern Conference standings. The Impact opened the score in the 68th minute, when substitute Sanna Nyassi, who came into the game a minute earlier, involuntarily redirected the ball to Marco Di Vaio at the top of the box following a cross from the left flank. The Impact forward fired a low, well-struck shot to the short side, beating Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum just inside the post as he dove to his right. Crew forward Dominic Oduro squared things up in the 72nd minute when he blasted a half volley from a tight angle close to the six-yard box that dipped under the bar, far post, subsequently ending the team's 184 minute shutout streak at home. Impact defender and Academy product Maxim Tissot made his first career appearance in MLS, coming on in the 88th minute. Impact head coach Marco Schallibaum served a one-game suspension following his ejection from the last game versus Kansas City. Assistant coach Mauro Biello ran the bench in his absence. Post-game comments "It's probably one of the first times this season we took control of the game in the second half. We had the ball more often and we created chances," said Impact assistant coach Mauro Biello. "Visiting teams are going to come here and shoot for a tie, so naturally they'd want to close down the middle. For us, we had to create from the wings and find some depth. I think we did that well in the second half with Justin Mapp and then Sanna Nyassi. We did enough to win the game, but we'll take the point, especially with all the outside factors like the delay, losing Ferrari just before game time and coming off of a two week break." "The mentality is different because you think you're starting on the bench," said Karl W. Ouimette, who replaced Matteo Ferrari in the starting lineup. "The preparation is a little different as well, but I've always said you have to be ready at all times in case you get your number called, and I was good to go." "We were happy with effort in the second half, but we wanted the three points," said defender Jeb Brovsky. "Giving up that goal right after we scored ours was kind of a dagger in our hearts. We are going to take a look at things this week, see where we need to tighten up, and see where we can be more dangerous in attack." Other highlights In 35th minute, Crew midfielder Ben Speas hammered one from 30 yards out, square to goal, but Perkins pushed the dipping ball over the bar. The best scoring chance of the first half came off of the foot of Crew forward Federico Higuain, who was all alone at the top of the box in the 39th minute. Impact goalkeeper Troy Perkins, who was name the Videotron Player of the Match, came charging out to cut the angle and was able to block Higuain's blast as he broke in on goal. In the 62nd minute, a give and go between Mapp and Romero sprung the Argentinean into the box, where he laid the ball of for Di Vaio who was in tight on the keeper, but Gruenebaum was able to stop the striker's attempt. The Impact came close to regaining the lead in the 78th minute when a give and go near midfield between Di Vaio and Mapp sent the American streaking down the left flank. His cross from near the goal line found Sanna Nyassi six yards out, but his one-time attempt missed far post. Impact team captain Davy Arnaud made his 250th start in MLS, while Patrice Bernier set a team record with 22 consecutive appearances for the Impact. Next Game The Impact has another bye-week next weekend before playing its first game of the Amway Canadian Championship against Toronto FC at BMO Field on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:30pm (ET). The Impact will return to Stade Saputo to host the Chicago Fire on Saturday, April 27, at 4pm ET.
Daniele Paponi joins the Impact Loaned by Bologna F.C., he will bring offensive depth to the team MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact announced on Friday that Italian striker Daniele Paponi has been officially loaned to the club by Bologna F.C., from the Italian first division, with the deal to be finalized upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. As per Major League Soccer policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Paponi, who turned 25 on April 16, joined the Impact following a trial with the Impact. “He is a player that can add a lot of offensive depth to our roster,” said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. He has qualities and a profile that differ from Marco Di Vaio and Andrew Wenger. He plays well with his back to goal, he’s very intense and possesses many characteristics required to be an MLS player. He is still very young and could become an important piece of this team in the future.” http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/ne...ard-daniele-paponi-joins-montreal-impact-loan
