    ASSESSING THE IMFC RESERVES SEASON
    [IMG]

With a sixth place finish synonymous with a place in the quarter-finals in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL), the Montreal Impact reserve team improved upon its standing from 2010, and despite being eliminated by Capital City FC, the U21s walked away from the 2011 season with many positives, including a spot in the playoffs, something the team failed to do the year prior.

“That was our objective and we were able to attain it,” said the head coach of the reserve team, Philippe Eullafroy. “This is proof that we’ve progressed. Playing in elimination games was an important experience for our young players. Even though we are a developmental team, we have to cultivate a winning attitude. The reserve team must understand the importance of winning at this level.”

    LOOKING FOR TWO SUPPORTERS
    TO LAUNCH THE NEW JERSEY

MONTREAL – The Journal de Montreal, in collaboration with the Montreal Impact, will host a contest in which two Impact supporters will be chosen to wear the new exclusive team jersey at the official unveiling on December 1, at the Montreal Science Centre.

Fans are asked to show their support for the club by uploading a picture of them online at the following address: www.journalmontreal.com/fansimpact

    THE IMPACT OPEN OFFICES DOWNTOWN

In order to be closer to the business community and facilitate meetings with potential season ticket holders, the sales team will now be housed in new offices in downtown Montreal, located at 1100 University (Office 104), between René-Lévesque and Belmont.

Information sessions on season packages and Stade Saputo will be held in the new Impact offices on November 24 and 28. Those interested in learning about the club’s vision and who would like to meet members of the management team and technical staff can call 514-328-5170.

An Impact boutique will also be in place and will open on December 2, the day after the unveiling of the team’s new jersey. The operating hours will be Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.

    A NEW WEBSITE

The Montreal Impact will launch its new website soon, around MLS Cup and the Expansion Draft. The new site, which will have the same web address: impactmontreal.com, was conceived along Major League Soccer’s platform and will be available on the MLS network.

The new website was developed under the new branding of the club and will be even more comprehensive than the previous. In the era of social media, the purpose of the site is to improve the fan experience online, but also during their visit to the stadium.

Marsch returns from South America with open mind

Montreal coach keeping options open ahead of expansion draft

MONTREAL - With a little less than a week remaining before the start of the Expansion Draft, Montreal head coach Jesse Marsch told MLSsoccer.com what his plans are for next week’s first major step toward building the Impact's roster.

We watched them a bit more closely this time,” Marsch told MLSsoccer.com. “We evaluated different scenarios to see how they could fit into the team’s strategy. We also analyzed the financial aspect of bringing one or many players from South America.”

The gaffer explained that the Montreal faithful should not expect any news before the expansion draft scheduled on Nov. 23. “We want to keep all the doors opened,” he said. “That being said, we’re still looking for offensive-minded players.”

“We need players with a strong MLS background and experience,” Marsch said. “There are a lot of players on our radar. Although we have a good sense of what to expect next week, we want to have as many options as possible. It’s important to keep an open mind.”

Montreal move one step closer to first MLS campaign

Impact executives travel to LA for league meetings, ready for 2012

OS ANGELES — The final whistle of the MLS Cup on Sunday night brought the Montreal Impact one step closer to playing in North America’s top division. Once the confetti was blown off the field and the lights were turned off at the Home Depot Center, it was time to turn the soccer world's attention from Southern California to Montreal.

Several executives of the club were in LA throughout the week to attend league meetings with topics ranging from club administration to marketing and ticket sales. Executive vice president Richard Legendre led many of Montreal’s discussions this week.

“It was heartwarming to see our new logo on one of the flags here,” admitted the club executive. “What I like about these meetings is that we can have open discussions with the other clubs, and everyone here has been very open to share opinions and ideas.”

Montreal take Riley, ship him to Chivas for Braun, Mayen

Right back leaves Seattle after 3 US Open Cup titles in 3 years

Within minutes of selecting Seattle’s James Riley in the Expansion Draft, the Montreal Impact traded the right back to Chivas USA in exchange for forward Justin Braun and midfielder Gerson Mayen.

Montreal acquire two players who can contribute immediately. Braun, 24, is a tall and active targetman who has shown a knack for scoring timely goals. He scored 24 goals and posted 12 assists in four seasons with the Goats, including 8 goals and 5 assists in 2011.

Montreal also gave up some allocation money.

Seattle trades DEF to Montreal in Expansion Draft opening salvo

NEW YORK – The Montreal Impact didn’t wait long to make their first move on Wednesday, working out a trade with the Seattle Sounders before the Expansion Draft even started.

The Sounders sent left back Tyson Wahl to Quebec in exchange for allocation money, landing the defender on his second expansion side. Seattle acquired him in the 2009 Expansion Draft from Kansas City.

Wahl had a career year for Sigi Schmid in 2011, starting 22 of his 23 appearances for the Sounders and adding a goal and two assists. The defender has played six seasons in MLS – three with Kansas City and three with Seattle – since being drafted in the second round (19th overall) of the 2006 SuperDraft from California Berkley.

    Montreal Impact add midfielder Arguez
    [IMG]

Montreal Impact continue to add to their growing roster.

Major League Soccer's expansion franchise announced the signing of American midfielder Bryan Arguez on Friday, making it 17 players they now have under contract.

A 22-year-old native of Miami, Arguez appeared in 19 games (2,065 minutes) in 2011 with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League (NASL), one tier below MLS.

Arguez was picked 11th overall in the 2007 MLS draft by D.C. United, but didn't see any action the year he spent with the club. He quickly moved to Germany where he joined Hertha BSC, playing mostly for the Bundesliga side's reserve team. He made a single appearance for the senior team.

Relocating the Big-O at Stade Saputo
    [IMG]
One of the biggest challenges for engineers during the whole expansion project

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact and Broccolini Construction Inc. have successfully moved the Big-O, Friday morning, one of the biggest challenges for engineers during the whole expansion project.

The 175-ton concrete structure known as the Big-O is an historic monument that was built in 1976 for the Montreal Olympic Games. It became a symbol for the international skateboarding community.

The structure was moved 25 meters and will keep the same incline at its new location.

“We understood when we first build the stadium that the Big-O was a huge deal to the skateboarders,” said Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo. “When we decided to expand the stadium, we had no choice but to put a big column in its location. We needed to move it to save it. Everyone in the project was pretty confident it could be done.”

With Big-O relocated, Saputo renovations can progress

Winter weather next challenge; Impact stadium to be ready mid-June

The next obstacle Garippo and his team will face is the weather. With winter just around the corner, the crew will have to pick up the pace before the temperature dips below freezing point.

“The main challenge right now is to get as much done as we can”, Garippo admitted. “We know that we won’t be able to work with concrete come winter, but it doesn’t mean we’ll stop completely. We can still start setting up the steel structures during this time.”

The plan for both Broccolini Construction Inc. and the Montreal Impact is to have Saputo Stadium ready by the start of the summer, which gives the fans a six-month period before they can attend an MLS game there. In the meantime, the Impact will play at Olympic Stadium.

Jamaican veteran to guard Impact net in inaugural MLS season

The Montreal Impact continue to make a splash in the transfer market.

Just hours after the club acquired midfielder Davy Arnaud from Sporting KC, they added yet another veteran weapon on Monday, picking up 34-year-old goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts from MLS Cup champs LA Galaxy in exchange for allocation money.

After decade in Kansas City, veteran sent packing to Montreal

The Montreal Impact continued a busy six-day stretch with another trade to shore up their veteran leadership on Monday, dealing for Sporting Kansas City midfielder Davy Arnaud.

The Impact shipped defender Seth Sinovic and allocation money in the deal, less than a week after they picked up Sinovic from Sporting KC in the MLS Expansion Draft last Wednesday. Sporting left the young defender unprotected for the draft and the Impact swooped in, but it appears they may found Sinovic expendable after a recent deal for Seattle Sounders defender Tyson Wahl came through last week.
