Full disclosure: I am an actively participating Mormon

There are two types of visits you can receive from "the Mormons". One is a random visit by missionaries and the other is a non-random visit but either missionaries or members of the church. The difference is if you have once been a member of the church (as you have been VG due to the short time your family attended) and thus have your name in the records of those who have membership in the church.

As long as your name is on the records of the church, we are responsible for trying to keep track of you. The only way to have them stop trying to keep track of you is to have your name removed from the records of the church.

What you will need to do is to go to LDS.org (http://www.lds.org/maps/?lang=eng#ll=0,0&z=2&m=google.road), look up your ward (congregation), type in your address and it should tell you your ward. You will need to contact the Bishop of that particular ward (they will likely have your records as you live in their congregational area) and tell him you wish to have your name removed from the records of the church. He may ask why, etc. and you can explain your reasons. Once your name has been removed from the records of the church, the frequency of you being contacted by the Mormons should decrease.

This does not mean you will never have contact again as missionaries are out there contacting people but in that case any contact would be random as compared to being singled out for having once been a Mormon and having your name on the records of the church.

Other fallacies I've seen in this thread in regard to Mormons:
    * Multiple wives have not been allowed since the 1880's and having multiple will get you excommunicated (removed) from the church
    * Blacks have full rights within the church
    * The two-year mission is not free, it is paid for by the missionary or his family/friends.

Yes, but it seems the Christians in here aren't as sensitive as most Holy Rollers.

Since 1978 I guess that's true. A little late to the party I would say.

All the religious folk here aside from GrampaBlaze who is Mormon, are taking a bunch of pot shots at his religion. As you know, I'm not big on any religion, but for some Christians to look down on and criticize a different sect than yours because the fairy tales are slightly different is the epitome of pot calling the kettle black.

Thank you for the defense Further. It is appreciated. I am accustomed to people taking pot shots at Mormons. For that matter, I enjoy a good Mormon joke as much as the next person.

For what its worth, Mormons are just like people in any other religion. You have those who are out on the fringe (both on the extreme fringe and the MINO (Mormon in Name Only) variety. You have very nice people and some very annoying people.

Some of the best people I know are not Mormon and I know of some very shady people who are Mormon.

For me, I do not judge the religion by one or two people, but by the overall perspective I have of those I meet from the religion. The fact that there are some nutcases out there (and I realize some may think of me as a nutcase knowing that I am a Mormon), does not detract from the truth of the doctrine that is taught by a religion, whether Mormon, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim or anything else.

Any comment on the hot mormon chicks?

I went to the temple here in LA last Christmas, they had some cool displays up and checked them out.

I am not familiar with all the different churches of the Christian religion but all those that I do know something about. have good goals and mostly teach good practices. The Mormon church does an especially good job in teaching people to care for their children through family life and the church. Far superior to the non believers that tend to dump feral children on society and leave their education to the village.

Did I ever tell the tale of when I worked for the Mormon Church? Trying to get a handle on the Union at the Santa Fe Railroad? I lost. The top group in the Union were the Railroad Police, they ran me out of Topeka, actually escorted me to a bus headed for Kansas City. The Railroad went into bankruptcy about six years later. I don't know how the Church came out on that? They were the major stockholder in that railroad.

I'm not a Mormon, but I can say that if there is a group that takes better care of their own people, I don't know who that is.

If you were a Mormon you would have stayed at a Marriott as they are owned by Mormons. :)
