Most desireable neighborhood in Portland proper?

We're talking about Portland proper. Smaller towns like Lake Oswego and West Linn have cops with nothing to do other than traffic tickets.

 

That's not true. I like that I can leave shit out and not worry about someone stealing it.

 

Me too! I leave my shoes out every night going on 2 years, and I have repeatedly mistakenly left my car unlocked at least 3 times.

I lived in Sherwood for a few years and it is a great little area, if you go up I5 or 99 its closer to downtown than people think but houses are relatively affordable. Very safe with great schools and no trashy people.

 

Yeah, Sherwood is nice. I've looked at some houses out there.

 

yeah, but there are still lots of residential burglaries in the burbs. And lots of speed traps. because the cops don't have to do so much shit, they just give traffic tickets all day.

 

I know it's in jest, but why make fun of it. I don't make fun of you for needing to be in some trendy little place where you can bar-hop or do what it is you do. Why knock my living in a big-ass house in the 'burbs?

 

The 99 sucks. That and the 26 are the worst rush hours in town.. And if there are no trashy people in Sherwood........ wait... WTF? Are we talking about the same Sherwood?

It's an area that grew a lot from like, 1995-2005, and has become pretty nice, but to say there are no trashy people there........

 

Lots of residential burglaries? They happen, but I wouldn't say "lots". And far less than Portland proper.

 

I grew up in a big ass house in the burbs, we had those rooms. Its just kind of weird how they call these living spaces different things. We had a bonus room, we probably had a great room but it used to be called a living room. I don't know what a den is called nowadays.

 

Sherwood used to seem far as fuck and hicksville when I was living in PDX in the 90s. And we lived out in Bull Mountain which was still the sticks back then but they seemed to have joined it together with Murrayhill and Scholls ferry. even back then taking 99 sucked.

so weird what used to be open country is now ugly megadevelopments though.

 

My room is like 900 square feet or so. I simply call it "my room" or my girl's call it "dad's room". There's a bar, a pool table, leather couches, pinball, foosball, my home office space, and a big screen TV. I never was a big "go out to the bars" kind of dude. So to have everything I want at home and have some quiet is cool with me. Most of my friends were, and some still are, "go out and party" people. When it was on the market, the realtor referred to it as a bonus room. But that made no sense, as there was a little office room downstairs they also called a bonus room.

 

We didn't even know what the fuck to put in our Bonus Room. We just put another TV and a ping pong table in there and really never used it.

and it isn't just about eating at bars. Its about having a variety of restaurants, cultural events, community activities and what not in the immediate vicinity to you. Sure, you probably have little fake parks and "farmer's markets" that they set up close by, but its not the same as living in the city itself. Having not to go to chain restaurants or at restaurants in minimalls, etc. Being able to find decent street food and stuff. But like I said, when you have a family it doesn't really make that much sense, but if you're relatively "chain free", living out in the burbs is kind of a lame idea since you'll miss out on a lot of the fun things that make living in prime areas worth it.

 

Yeah, this is exactly what I was visioning as the poster mentioned Sherwood's growth. I grew up believing you don't live off the 26, 99 or 84 (except where the 84 is between I-5 and 205). All I remember is the worst traffic was always 26, 99, and 217.

 

Oh, my bar is in there, too.

See, I live with three females, two of which are children. If I want to be left alone and watch what I want on TV, the "bonus" room is my best bet.

 

It still is that way, although 84 has some nasty traffic now between I-5 and I-205. Stupid Camas and stupid Greshamn =[

Yeah, it does. But at least you're in the middle of everything, as opposed to being way out of town. Plus, 84 East in the AM and 84 West in the PM (between the 5 and 205) both move pretty well. The same cannot be said for the opposite directions at those times.

 

No. Mostly sports. Maybe a little news. And maybe some crime shows, like on Investigation Discovery.

My other needs are met pretty well at home.
