<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Primetime:</div><div class="quote_post">Yao Ming... only one Chinese player in the NBA who happens to be good... correct me if I am wrong, but China is home to 1+ billion people.... that equals $$$... ^strictly for business reason, not because I am greedy and want to grow fat off kick backs strictly business ...the continued influx of International players in the NBA, alongside the assumption that Yao will one day be the most dominant C in the game... really could allow me to sell him to many overseas nations where they will be willing to support a non-US player... (political beliefs etc...) his physical attributes which separates him from many NBA players is another tool which I could use to further market him... rather than another 6'7 guard... I have a 7'5 C to work with... much like AI being so small etc... as appealing as Lebron is, as this is a business question related to the NBA... I pick Yao Ming.</div> im with you. You would make more money overseas alone with Yao then domesticly with anyone else.... and then add what you could get domesticly with Yao? I am thinking he has the biggest potential for earnings
Any time you sign a 90 million dollar shoe deal mefore you haace even played one game you are really mareketable....Lebron James is the new thing these days a young players,an exciting players and everyone buys his stuff...for christ sakes guys how many other guys in the leauge have ever endorsed bubble gum before,Lebron is.
:two_thumb :two_thumb :two_thumb I said Yao, but i fogot the real deal:MICHAEL JORDAN.He is the only retire player that sells every thing he puts in the market.I remember my friends talking about how cool the new JORDAN'S were and i though they were ugly MOST OF THE TIME and VERY,VERY EXPENSIVE.Beside that the people in the whole PLANET knows who's MICHAEL JORDAN.
Right now it's LeBron. He's coming off a great season and his jersey was the top seller all last year if I'm correct. He made an impact on the NBA instantly. He's already got tons of endorsments, his own website, lots of crap, it's him, hands down.
Easily Lebron..he is marketing bubble gum, upper deck cards, sprite, and everything else and the kid is only 19...if Kobe didnt have a rape trial I think it would be him and LeBron..
Kobe Bryant isn't as marketable as Lebron is, regardless of the pending rape case. He lacks the 'Street Cred' that other players have, plus he puts out some ugly shoes. It's Lebron, hands down. His freaking card sold for $150,100, and he has a shoe deal worth enough to last a lifetime. People love him and will buy anything with his face on it. Bubblegum anyone? Ask Lebron. AI has turned Reebok around - and people are now buying their products. His 'Street Cred' is probably one of the best in the NBA and he appeals to the youth/urban crowd. What about Michael Jordan? He may be retired from the game, but he's still a household name and people love buying his products. Almost every guy here probably owns or wish they've owned a pair of Air Jordans. His clothing line sells tons, and he's redefined Nike with his athletic gear.
Of course everyone knows that Lebron is the most marketable player in the NBA, because of the fact that he is a man-child and he can just come into the league at 19 and put up 20 points a game..but I'm gonna be original and say Allen Iverson This is because everyone looks at AI and his "gangsta" attitude, and a lot of kids look up to him for that. Just his lifestyle makes him a very marketable player
its clearly yao ming by a long shot. His ability to move products will surpass lebron's, AI's, and even MJ. One simple reason, there's like a billion chinese people(and probablly a billion more asian people), and yao ming is the only good asian player in the NBA. (ever notice how the rockets jersey resembles the chinese flag? it's probablly not just a coincidence). And he's not just "good", he's soon to build his reputation as the best big man in the league besides shaq. Yao Ming basically brought the NBA to the masses in china, and he will continue to do so around the world. Sue lebron is marketable as well because of how good he is and his pristine public image, but he will not have as much economic impact as yao. People also forgot to mention Kevin Garnett. That adidas commercial is pretty cool.
Like everyone else said, Allen Iverson and LeBron James. AI for his street cred and his style. Plus, everyone likes him. LeBron for being the next big thing. And not those that make a tiny impact their first year then go away, he's here to stay, so I would take LeBron over AI.
1) Lebron 2) Yao Ming 3) Allen Iverson 4) Carmelo 5) Shaquille O'neal 6) Vince Carter 7) Tracy McGrady 8) Stephon Marbury 9) Kevin Garnett 10) Dwyane Wade I don't know about Kobe with all the problems he has right now he won't be too marketable outside of jerseys.
On every single leve, it is LeBron James, no cpontest. He is the most marketable person out there. He has everything, the hype and the talent. Now, on a business standpoint, Its obviously Yao Ming, but only if he gets a good product, and is marketted properly.

But, if you're talkn about that U.S. then Yao Ming obviously is not as marketable
this is just scary. http://www.forbes.com/free_forbes/2004/0216/064a.html "Just how popular is Yao? When the Rockets are on TV in China, there is a larger audience watching Yao play than the combined audience of all the other games that night in the U.S"
Lebron James is the biggest in my mind but second i gotta go with Vince Carter he is after all always first in All Star voting by who the <u>FANS</u>
Yao for the money. But he's not cool to me...he's too boring. LBJ...he's exciting...and bring fans off their seats. Damn rape case!
