Meanwhile our useless GM sits and watches MDZ fall apart instead of packaging him with a pick for a proven winger scorer. Go figure.

Yes, they're better, but marginally. That's a dumb waste of a 1st rd pick.

Moulson gives you 30+ in his sleep every year, so how many more goals is Vanek going to give you? 3 to 5? that'd put him in the mid to high 30s. Anything more than 5-7 incremental goals and he's getting into 40+ gl territory, and in the past 3 full seasons we've only had 7 or fewer 40+ gl scorers in the league, and i don't see Vanek as a top-5 scorer in the sport, even with Tavares on his line. So they gave up 1 st and a 2nd for 5-7gls while ignoring defense and goalie? Dumb move.

and,if the quote from the ESPn article is true, they took Tavares' linemate and close friend and traded him away, lol. Way to treat your best player.

" Moulson, an almost inseparable linemate with good friend John Tavares, posted three 30-goal seasons with the Islanders."

Like I said, I don't think it is a HR amazing deal, we agree. There is chemistry between Moulson and Tavares for sure, but I do give them credit for going for it. They did get better. And who says they can't re-sign Moulson this summer? Plus maybe they can keep Vanek if he loves it here. You never know.

Not a HR amazing deal, we agree, but at least they are going for it. I like that.

Yes. They're also surpassing the Rangers, who are in trouble :)

I like teams that are aggressive and take their shots. Good for the Isles. That is all I can say. We'll sit back and wait, and they'll go for it. I think they have a better team than us right now, but I guess we'll see how that plays out long haul.

    Dumb does not equal aggressive.

Had they made a trade for a goalie, you can call them aggressive. Trading away Tavares' good friend, a 30gl scorer and 2 draft picks for Vanek is not aggressive. It's dumb.

They are no better a SC contender after the trade than they were before it.

And we agree to disagree as usual you piece of garbage. They are better. Vanek scored goals with no one. Moulson put up numbers riding on Tavares' back. And if they re-sign Moulson this summer, and convince Vanek to stay, how does it look then jacka**?

We should worry about our own team and not the Isles trade or knocking them for it. We should focus on our own useless GM who sits around and does nothing instead of working on a DZ package for some scoring.

It looks the same than if they had kept Moulson, resigned him, then convinced Vanek to come as a UFA, except they would have had the 2 picks.

Long season and the deadline is nowhere near us, but if this is "their move" then the Islanders are a clueless franchise like the Flyers when it comes to ignoring their 1 big need.

Vanek doesn't make them a better contender, a goalie does.

Actually it does not. They are better with Vanek over Moulson sh*thead. So they actually get better now, and maybe still can get both this summer. And I am sure they will do other things, if needed, as the season moves on.

    Love the trade for Buffalo.....

You can debate if its worth getting a likely rental in Vanek for the picks but I dont think anyone can argue Vanek >>>>> Moulson

Moulson has consistently played with Tavares. Vanek has played with centers that are consisently not John Tavares. Moulson wont be as good without Tavares and Vanek could explode.

I am not saying I love the deal for the Isles due to the picks they are giving up but Matt Moulson is not Thomas Vanek. Not even close. Let's see how Moulson does without Tavares. Wont matter though Buffalo will flip him for more picks at deadline

Yea, the Sabres did very well there. They can probably trade Moulson for another 1st and a prospect so their haul would be impressive for someone who is an upcoming UFA.

Detroit comes to mind as a team that needs to win soon (a lot of aging players) and isn't strong on LW, so they could be a target for Moulson. You put him with either Datsyuk or Zetterberg and he'll produce.

Agree....Buffalo is going to end up with 2 #1's and a #2 for a player who has been declining in production and wasnt going to resign with them. Great haul IMO

By the way, how about MDZ+ for Moulson? :)

    Kreider - Step - Nash
    Moulson - Richards- Cally
    Hags - Brass - Puliot

31, I agree that the trade doesn't make much sense to me in the long term, but my point was that Moulson without JT is prob good for 15-20 goals, while Vanek WITH JT is probably good for 40-50 goals. Big difference there, not a marginal difference. Even the difference between Moulson putting up 30 if he stayed versus Vanek putting up 40-50 is a decent difference...not worth a first and a second IMO, but I can certainly see the reasoning here for this trade....
