Unheralded Luis Rodriguez put Mariano Rivera's pursuit of the major league saves record on hold. And he kept the New York Yankees from expanding their lead on Boston in the AL East. Rodriguez led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a solo homer off New York reliever Cory Wade, and the Mariners delayed Rivera's chase for the saves record with a 2-1 win over the Yankees on Wednesday night.
Guy came into the game hitting about .167, and goes 3-5 with 3 extra base hits against the Yankees, including a walkoff home run. Now he's just under .200. He's intriguing. Not sure I'd give up starting Brendan Ryan at SS for L-Rod (dear God, I hate nicknames like that), but he had a heckuva game.
Oh yeah, and hitting a cool 0-11 with RISP isn't a sustainable way to win games, but I'll take what I can get at this point.
