The odds of me traveling to PDX to get faced and gig are very very slim. Mags has a better shot than I.
Swinette. I'm also considering a Casio keyboard with built in drum machine so I can become a rap artist.
To be truthful... I play guitar, bass, and piano. None at expert level. Self taught. I play drums a little, too. I haven't really practiced or even played for fun for several years, though.
alas, I am locationally indisposed, but I'm a horn player. Mostly trumpet/bugle, but I can play French horn or mellophone in a pinch. I don't sound good on the tuba, and never really took up the trombone.
Great to see so many musicians here. I am a singer songwriter, do all the instruments on my own recordings. Play guitar, bass, percussion, trumpet, charango, ukes, banjo, mandolin...most fretted stringed instruments but guitar is my passion. I played professionally and toured overseas when I was younger but now just play guitar with my son. He's learning my songs...I've written hundreds of them. In my spare time I work on jazz, bossa nova stuff. I can play chords on a piano but my left hand is too slow to jam on keys. I don't get to Portland much and tend to stay out in the woods. My dream gig would be playing guitar behind Aretha Franklin or Al Green. Recently I've been playing the classical guitar more than my other guitars. Like most guitarists I love the blues but my favorite stateside gig was playing bass in a 13 piece Cuban Salsa Band....lasted 3 years and it was really fun. Can't sing and play bass at the same time though...don't know how McCartney does it.
Nice! Seriously? Are you in Ptown and still like doing this? We must talk in detail if sop. My band is currently on the hunt for a photographer. I started on the T-bone all through my school years. Won a couple of awards. Agreed. I had no idea so many Blazers fans had a musical side. Awesome!!! Okay, so I am looking at having a musical jam, pool party and BBQ at my place in SE near mall 205. on Sunday, Sept 20th. thinking something like a 1-7 type thing with people showing up as they please and food will be open, probably start the grill up around 3-4. I have a few musician friends heading up from Cali to have fun and jam and I thought this would be a great time to have an end of summer musical jam/ pool party and BBQ for anyone who might be interested. All food will be furnished: chicken wings, sausages, hot dogs and hamburgers, potato and mac salad, veg platters, etc. We will request everyone to provide their own beverages. We have a couple of fridges to store everything in. Alcohol and 420 friendly, but that's it and the 420 would be sectioned off. I will record the whole days events, edit and provide a disc to anyone who would like as well. I would need a body count no later than Wednesday the 16th to have everything prepped. As for musical instruments, I would ask that if you play a stringed instrument, bring your instrument( I do have a couple Fender basses, Jackson guitars, etc., that might be able to be used), but AMPS are not needed. If you play drums, please bring your own sticks ( we do have some spare beat up ones). I have a couple different keys for pianists, so that is all taken care of. Anyone who is interested in this, please send me a message and I will get you an address and start tallying up the body count. FYI, I will also be inviting some musicians from other bands around town that I am close to, so it wont JUST be a Blazer forum party. There will be lots of good jams all day long. Last time we did this, we ended up with a disc and a half of tracks. Hopefully the weather is nice, you will then want to bring a change of swimming shorts and a towel as well. Have a decent sized in ground pool to cool everyone off. With lots of bodies it can get hot in the studio. we have plenty of seating (as long as the weather is good and we can be outdoors) If weather is rainy, we still have a covered patio, but things might be a bit tighter. Anyhow, I think this would be a great opportunity for some of us to get together and have some fun while we are waiting for the season to start. If you don't play an instrument, you are still invited.
