The blazers needed to renounce Hickson in order to absorb Lopez's contract. He wasn't "signed", he was traded for. The cap space available last summer was approximately 9 million without Hickson's cap hold of 7.8m. After renouncing Hickson and absorbing Lopez's contract of 5.6m, the blazers would have had to sign Hickson with the available cap space, and there is no way Hickson takes 3.4 million or whatever was left over. It's all about timing dude. It's obvious that the Hickson revisionists were not paying attention this past off season.

Okay; I was REALLY trying to be graceful and let this thread just go out to sea and let it set sail without ever seeing it again. I actually regretted making it because I didn't know it was going to be such a "Hot-Topic" with homers who only want to listen to one side and not gain a perspective by gaining information from multiple sources that are actually at "Arms-Length" with the Blazers. I simply did not want to create a "Flame-War" nor be looked upon as a "Troll". I care "ALOT" about the Blazers having followed them since 1974. Doesn't make me better than anyone but I certainly can see trends. I am going to respond to those people who posted well after I had already let go because the response has been so over-whelming. Here we go.
First of all, you're being loose at best with your associations. I have not called Allen cheap so that does not pertain to me and my point of view. I have also stated that Hickson could have been given a QO at 4 million which was a year previous to last and the blazers declined it which would have even made him cheaper this year than matching Denver's offer.
There pretty much a consensus that Allen over paid to retain Batum so I don't even find it worthy to argue that point. When looking at the other aspect of your rebuttal, yes, Allen is being cheap and it's a double-edged sword with me. One, I don't blame him because it keep everyone hungry to do better but it's also a knee-jerk reaction from the days when he had a 100 million + payroll when he was desperate for validation. Sorry but business is not a "One way or another" avenue; I can speak on authority that it's much more dynamic than that.
What are you going to do if and when Canzano's correct? I will admit that I do think that Allen has in a draconian way changed his way of doing things with the blazers so much that I think that he's trying to "Time" the market. I would LOVE to believe that Allen has "Learned" from his mistakes but you have to go at least 2-14 in making the second round of the playoffs before I can buy that. Don't get me wrong as I am "Hoping" he proves me wrong. I have continued to be a fan in every shape and form.
With out doing a basic google search, do you even know what that term means? It's a classic, A Blazer employee attacks any fan who even questions the blazers despite mediocre results in a decade and a half. When you can be civil to someone that is anything less than 100% on board with everything the blazers do then please let me know.
