Now that we have been winning against playoff teams, I have a real growing concern. The front office flips the switch from long term rebuild to try to acquire players to try to win now. I will be very disappointed if we start making moves, bringing in older vets thinking we might be able to win now. Id much rather stay focused on the long term. What do you think the odds are the Blazers would actually try to turn the corner and go after a bunch of people to try to win now all of a sudden?
I know fuck-all about this season; the team was a total unknown. As they become knowns, to themselves and others, moves will become obvious. This summer I bet we make a bunch of moves to focus the team on what is working. Trade deadline? I don't think they make any moves yet. Too cloudy to see clearly.
I don't think they would bring in a bunch of veterans. They might add an older star player, like maybe a Zach Randolph or a Dwight Howard. Or they might add an expiring deal to eat up some cap space until this summer. I don't think they're going to go out and add a bunch of aging veterans though.
If a move is made, it'll be to increase the sum total of assets we have and it probably won't impact the rotation much, if at all.
We're trading for five of the guys that you hate most in the NBA. Dwight Howard Kobe Bryant James Harden Kim Kardashian Kanye West
With 28 games left bringing new players into the rotation does not usually turn out for the best. Not immediately anyway. Teams often get worse before they get better. And we don't have the luxury to wait for a new player to get acclimated. So I think any move Neil makes now will be for..... after the season. If we were a contender and we needed help off the bench or to replace an injured star, then maybe. But that is not the case here. Any trade now needs to be for the bigger picture.
Yup. That's why I'll be surprised if Neil does anything that moves a part of our rotation. Still, it wouldn't shock me if he swings for the fences. I bet you could plug Dwight Howard in and he'd be able to contribute right away.
Great point I should have been more clear. this off season is not my concern. Its this trade deadline. Aren't those guys needle movers that some would see as the move to put us into contenders status since we are currently the 7th seed? Another concern of the trade deadline is we then have to give up some of our guys. If we wait until the off season, we can just offer contracts without losing existing players.
Yeah, I think that's my point. I could see him making a trade for a needle mover.... but not just some veteran guy.
And thats my fear. we make a trade for a needle mover and we are giving up at least 2 key players including possible CJ, depending on the player. But if not him, then certainly a combo if Crabbe, Hendo, AMinu, Harkless, Leonard, etc... and honestly, I dont want any of them gone until we have a bigger picture of thier long term future growth.
I think if we make a move, it will be on draft night so we can use any major acquisitions as leverage in free agency.
Man, I'm becoming less and less worried about trading CJ. If we were to move him, I would re-sign Hendo. A SG rotation of Crabbe and Hendo really wouldn't be that bad.
That is true. I was not thinking about a superstar in my scenario. Dwight would be able to contribute right away as you say, because half the team would be gone in order to get him. But the end result would be the same. .......we would get worse before we got better. I don't believe Morey is willing to give him up for scraps. And I am not willing to give much up for a 28 day rental. He ain't staying.
It's not horrible if we got a star back. But I still like having two PG quality ball handlers on the floor during crunch time. I believe it helps Dame from being trapped. Doesn't it seem like teams tried trapping Dame more often the previous two years compared to this year?
