Forget the haters. Get what you want. If you want to combine two things that are important to you, go for it. I have seen weird rasta versions of the pinwheel as well. An alternative version could be the pride flag with the pinwheel in the middle?
I do harbor the superstitious suspicion that, if I do get a pinwheel tattoo, the team will fold in five years or less.
A few reasons, some cheeky, some very personal. 1 - I wanted to combine two things very important to me, of who I am, of what I am, in a way that is coded (i.e., not everyone will instantly understand it, but will signal meaning to those who already know) 2 - I wanted a conversation starter; a pride flag is too direct, and a pinwheel is too common... combining them makes it mine. 3 - I hate how boring a flag looks. It's just a rectangle. There's no motion or action to it 4 - I like the notion that I am blazing a trail for other trans people who come after me. One version of this tattoo would have trail above the pinwheel and blazer beneath it in the rip city font.
Seriously, get any tattoo of any design that you want. Pretty sure it will be unique and I can't say that for most. I really like those cutaway calf muscle/robot mechanical type things people get but they're everywhere.
