Danforth didn't get along with Sheldon from day 1. It's tough when the new guy comes in with no experience, making more than you from the get go, and clearly not having any respect for you either. He's also dealt with mono and depression over the past several months, so it's not surprising that he would get burnt out when work--which was basically his escape from real life--no longer becomes fun. From the chronology of the tweets, it sounds like he gave 90 days notice, and the bosses just told him "no need, you can just leave now." Petty crappy.
WTF? HE is on vacation this week. HE is on vacation every other week How the hell can he be burnt out. Dan JUST joined him.. Sorry, but I listen every day and I think it has gone downhill a bit. Too often I tune in on the way to work and all the are talking about is moving or where they ate the day before or something. I was pretty mad when I came to work this Monday and listened to them for a half hour and not one mention of recent Blazers events. Either way, kinda lame considering how often he is off anyhow.... Now what am I going to listen to during the AM commute? I wont have anything to bitch about now!
This is sooo true. Except, all I hear Travis talking about is college football. College football now>??? WTF?????? Come on. Man .... Dan comes in with tons of experience. He has been in radio for over twenty years. Not saying it was a good fit, but to say he has no experience is not accurate. Dan is coming off as pompous though.
That would be awesome. I'd login and listen online. Man, Portland sports radio has been trash for years. No wonder talent keeps moving on.
Incorrect. Dan's been in TV, but never in radio. Taylor had to walk him through the basics of radio, like which hours/segments get the highest listenership, or the concept of a "hard out", from day 1.
Portland sports radio generally pays very little, well under $50K a year for the working schmos who aren't already celebrities.
Ahhh... OKay, so they are generalizing when he says hes been in the biz for 20 years, he just means media, not radio. hmmm... All of this is wacky anyhow from the moment Bunker moved across the country for a girl. Fools move. I know. Ive done it.
Bunker and danforth had a ton of fun together. You could tell they really enjoyed working together. Dan Sheldon just has no personality and he ruined the show. I had a bad feeling from the get go when they said they were bringing in a Comcast stooge.
They put in a studio camera several months back (October, I think?), and you could see/hear Bunker & Danforth talking about anything/everything during commercial breaks, after the show, etc. Sheldon and Danforth basically don't talk during the breaks. It's palpable how bad the chemistry was.
And they all work at most like 4-6 hrs a day. This doesn't seem that low to me. There's a LOT of downtime
It all went downhill after he insulted us and I brought them donuts. Muhahahaha! They don't call them Voodoo Donuts for nothing.
The show is just boring. It was significantly more entertaining before. They have spent more time talking about Pokemon Go in the past week than they have about the Blazers. We have summer league. We have free agency. We have a logjam at multiple positions. They're simply not talking about it. I cued up the show from Monday because i was curious what they were saying about the Allen Crabbe matching, and the Meyers Leonard contract, and they barely talked about it. They spent most of the show talking about how Kirkers doesn't want to be called Kirkers. The old show, with Bunker and Danforth, would have spent the whole damn 3 hours talking about the Blazers. Fuck Dan Sheldon.
I listened to them a couple of times and my 2 cents....they won't be missed. He got fired...tweeted about it and honestly, it's just not a big deal to me
Unfortunately, and no offense to Taylor, thats what happens when youre the Marty Jannetty of the Rockers. When shawn michaels leaves, youre kinda left floundering around and nobody cares anymore.
Eh, it sounds like he put in his notice and then they told him not to come in. That's pretty shitty though. Doesn't sound like he has anything lined up. They just booted him out. Radio is ruthless like that. There one day, gone the next. It's funny, when he was out last week they had Wheels on with Sheldon, and Wheels walked all over Sheldon. Treated him like a total noob. Cut him off and basically took over the show. They were interviewing the radio guy for the Warriors, asking about Ezeli, and Wheels just made Sheldon look weak.
I loved that. Sheldon needed to get stepped on a bit. By contrast, when Sheldon was out on paternity leave, and Danforth took the number 1 seat with Jay Allen, and then Wheels, the show was very good. Sheldon was saying today (during the commercial breaks) that he thinks that Danforth's strength is being the #2 guy; I think that was the problem with the Sheldon/Danforth pairing from the beginning--that he viewed Danforth as the subordinate and treated him as such. If he had come in with some humility and had Danforth take the lead, I think they might have had more success.
Sheldon is a talking head. There's a reason why I never watched any of the comcast programming. Their talent is sub-par, they come off as arrogant, and I don't care for their opinions. I knew immediately when they announced that he was joining the show that it wouldn't work. The Bunker/Danforth pairing had the feel of a couple of rabid fans talking hoops for three hours. I really enjoyed listening to them during the playoffs. It was basically like listening to some of the guys on this forum. Adding in Sheldon made the show feel awkward and forced.
