Ahhh thats how I recognize. yeah they did love you. Pretty cool... except now I know your first name! *Stalker alert*
They aren't gonna want someone that makes Shel-bot look bad. They'll stick with some paint-drying dude that never says anything.
You could tell during the first Marang podcast that Sheldon sat in on that they respected one another right away, because they're both super serious about sports and analytics. Marang's focus is too narrow to work for a daily though, nor do I think he wants radio as a career.
I just didnt like how dude wanted to use us as a stepping stone, and completely abandoned the community and went over at blazers edge to start writing articles on the shitties website ever. Dave deckard sucks
I think the reason why Sheldon/Danforth was doomed to failure is that Danforth/Bunker were actually HUGE fans of the team. Unashamed fans of Portland Trail Blazers basketball. That's not how most journalists approach sports. I personally have a weird, twisted approach to being a Blazer fan. On the one hand, I am still a huge fan of the team, but I have a hard time letting that "try to be unbiased, analyze everything" voice in the back of my head. It has made it harder to just enjoy the team. With that said, I don't think Sheldon is a fan of the team. He's more a traditional sports journalist who fancies himself a professional. So Danforth is still a rabid fan, and Sheldon looks down on that. I ran into the same problems when I was covering the team. Guys like Quick and Canzano thought less of me because I was obviously a fan of the team, so they didn't think I was a true journalist.
Apparently I was right when I said he had a face only a mother could love (which did make the radio show)....
I think they want an actual tape of you talking. At least I'm pretty sure that's what "get your package together!" means.
I know many people were on him, but I liked Dans posts. Very informative opinion based, but relevant posts I thought. Got a little thick with the numbers making it hard for a dumbass like me to follow, but sure beats the hell out of all my hollow posts.
I'll answer this once- since you're so polite about it. It was never a stepping stone. It was something I enjoyed doing. Taylor and Andy asked me to do the podcast- and I wanted to share it. Weeks later BE came out of nowhere and asked me to write for them. I'm now down in Vegas covering SL for SBNation and BE. I didn't plan it that way in the least bit- nor did I expect that a couple of in-depth write ups on a Blazers forum would turn into something bigger. I never brown nosed, they came to me. I never used this as a stepping down- it was WHERE I STARTED. Instead of being mean about it, how about- hey that guy did some stuff here that other people liked. It's great to see a fellow Blazers fan do some more work. You can have your opinion and your beliefs, just know that when they come to me and my circumstances they couldn't be more wrong. Carry on.
Congrats! I always appreciated your work....for a stat challenged guy like myself..I find it really helpful. They just get pissy because you don't engage in the other threads on the forum I think. Good luck with your project.
