Before reading the rest of the thread I thought I would stop here because the Atlanta coach wasn't fired (contrary to the title) and Nate has won a playoff series (contrary to the post). So I'm guessing this whole thread went down a wrong path because it started out with wrong facts . . .
I think most people who work contract jobs, that have the option of being picked up would consider themselves fired if it wasn't picked up. They didn't like him enough to employ him any longer period. As for Nate winning a playoff series, he is referring to here, in Portland.
I guess so . . . but for an OP, he kind of slaughter it. One would think that if you are starting a thread, you would either try to be more acurate with the title or more clear in the original text. Also, being fired mean the team has to still pay you. I think it is a much more slap in the face to say we are letting you go even though your contract is not up and we have to pay you . .. you suck and we can't afford you as a coach even if it cost us financially. That compared to deciding to go a different direction once the coach's contract ends . . . seems different to me, but I agrre they do both say we don't want you anymore (one is a slap in the face and get out and the other is a handshake and thanks for the memories)
