It's related. NBA can't have fans harassing their King James which would undoubtedly come based on his recent hypocrisy. They're getting ahead of it.

I'm disappointed that I didn't even make this connection. I was immediately thinking of the Westbrook in Utah deal from last year, but I think you're right.

Honestly, I do not really think this is a problem.

There is a difference between homophobic or racial slurs by drunken idiots and political references about human rights (that were not happening during games).

I doubt we will see the NBA cracking down on fans wearing "free Tibet" shirts - but I would sure hope they do remove fans running a loud political party during a game interrupting the other patrons enjoying the game. Likewise, any 'fans' that need to provide verbal abuse during a game are really not a sight one hopes to subject the other fans (many of them underage), players etc... for.

Honestly, as much as I am a free speech advocate, I'm glad the NBA is cracking down. There is a minimum level of decorum that fans should have at games and it doesn't add anything to have some idiot trying to get under players skins by yelling racial crap or the like.

You're probably right. I didn't say it was a problem though which is how people apparently took my comment. I just found a bit of humor in it. Especially like @Propagandist mentioned some of the things they listed were kind of funny, test scores?

"meeting with a dozen players who believe fan behavior is becoming one of the game’s largest problems"

What a bunch of bullshit. Fans haven't changed at all. There have been hecklers for as long as I can remember. Players just have much thinner skin now.

In fact, I'm sure if it was something that was tracked, I would be willing to bet the use of racial slurs has decreased steadily over the last four or five decades. Can you imagine all the racist shit these guys would have heard back in the 60s and 70s?

"So 'your mother' comments, talking about your family, talking about test scores, anything non-basketball-related, we've added that in as well as being something that we will go and pull a fan out of the seat and investigate what happened."

    Test scores????

Hey LeBron, you got a shit score on your SATs!

I don't think the fans are any worse than they used to be, they just have more channels and a stronger voice than ever. Social media is allowing them to get those cracks in where they never had a chance before.

Yeah but this is strictly in the arenas, or are you saying that they have access to more personal info to really get to the players?

That was more of what I meant. They know every aspect of alot of these players lives now. Remember Robin Ficker or whatever his name was in DC? Stand behind the opposing bench and hold up signs. It's come a long way since then.

Yeah, I'd agree about that. We know significantly more about the personal lives of the players, but also that's partially on them for making so much about their lives public. Nobody has to participate in social media. I hardly post anything on facebook and I almost never use twitter.

And trust me, these players will claim they don't read all the comments and articles.....RIGHT! They are all over that stuff. You know who reads EVERYTHING......Jamal Crawford.

I'm sure it's hard not to look, but man.... you're just opening yourself up to a world of pain if you go read every nasty comment about you on the internet.

I wasn’t speaking in reference to any one person or comment in particular.

But it’s more of a general theme.

Also, I think it would be more ironic if they were policing fans voicing there political opinions, rather than taunts and insults hurled at their employees.

Additionally, if they started reprimanding players, GMs, coaches, etc. for speaking out politically — that would be ironic.

I don’t find irony in them saying, “yeah, you can’t insult our employees.” Seems pretty fair — and honestly somewhat overdue.

But I can see your perspective as well.

I didn't look at it like that. Jamal got a bad rap here. He is actually one of the nicest players I've ever had a chance to get to know. Really good guy. I just think he wants to know what the public opinion was about him and his game.
Last game of the season and JC sat out. On the plane home and see a tweet from Dwight Jaynes that said something along the lines of, "Well since Crawford sat out he will finish as the leader in FT% in the NBA."
And I fired back at him, "Since Crawford is the BEST FT shooter in the league he will finish as the ladder in FT% in the NBA!"
Jamal saw this and came back to my seat and gave me a big hug and a smile! Alot of people forget these guys are human and have feelings.
