Do you think any NBA has ever thought to themselves "Oh shit, I have to go up against Aminu?". I sincerely doubt that thought has ever crossed any NBA player's mind.
I think it happened multiple times per game this season. Opponents would be ready to shake 'n bake - then a switch happens, and instead of being guarded by Lillard/McCollum, they're now faced with the extremely long Aminu. I would laugh at how quickly they would pass the ball on to someone else.
How quickly they passed into the mismatch advantage the team had against one of our smaller guards? That's not because of Aminu...
That's valid to read it that way - my fault for not explaining well. A better way to phrase what I intended: I'd always notice a players demeanor and body language change when Aminu was guarding them, as opposed to when other players on our team defended them. (regardless of mismatches) Aminu at the least, forced them to change up their attack strategy. And it looked to me like opponents didn't like it. My 2c.
A lot of good defenders on that list, and I haven't compared any stats. However I would still argue with you if you told me that George Hill, MBah Moute, and Roberson are all more deserving of votes than the Chief. I know Chief would # some of his Instagram posts with phrases related to being All-NBA defense. Hopefully this doesn't discourage him and he comes back next season with the same intensity. I love Chief, in many ways he does things that I had always hoped Batum would do. He's not at Batum's skill level right now, but if he keeps it up he can get there and could end up being a much better player for us than Nic ever was.
I think there was a fair amount of.... "Player X is on Team Y. Team Y is pretty good. I'll vote for someone on Team Y. I'll vote for LaMarcus (or whoever)".
More likely they were merely sizing up the situation. I don't think anyone feared Aminu as a defender. He's long, but otherwise average.
Aminu shut down Paul George when he had been on fire for weeks. But nevermind Aminu. Why didn't Meyers Leonard receive any votes? He shut down Cousins and Gasol.
The All D teams have been pretty nice the last few years, no more legacy type votes. We wont see another Kobe situation where he gets on the All D team for several years based solely on name value. Just realized this could easily be taken the wrong way on Kobe. Its not that he still wasn't a good defender from about 10-12 but it was that he was no longer a lockdown defender the entire game, instead he had to pick and chose his spots and played D like he did in 03 only at the very end of games and select spots throughout, he definitely saved his energy mostly for offense.
This voting is flawed. Batum getting 2 votes shows how few of the voters have even seen enough to appreciate his defense. Another example: Lma getting more votes than Rolo
Please go back to fucking who, or whatever ever it is you were fucking, so we can hear all about it in another thread.
