Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

I'm kinda confused where all of this vitriol for Singler is coming from.

First of all it was, again, just an off the cuff idea. 2nd of all, no one ever said he was going to be the 2nd coming of Michael Jordan. He's going to be a backup and a glue guy, but he hustles, has a good bball IQ, can hit an open jump shot and play solid D. No one thought Jared Dudley was going to be much of an NBA player and look how solid he's been.

An asset like Batum off the bench is nice, but it seems like a luxury to me when we have such a desperate need for a young PG and solidarity at the 2 & 5. My question was more meant to be along the lines of IF you could get a solid role-player SF to come off the bench (if you don't like Singler, insert your own version of who that might be) for a purchased pick, would it interest you and would you be willing to move Batum with that type of idea in mind...

I don't think there is any vitriol, and nobody is acting as if you suggested he was going to be the second coming of Jordan.

As for your suggestion, though, i would move him in the right deal, and it seems like there are a lot of 3s, 3/4s in this draft, so we would be able to fill in for him. I just don't like the idea of Singler. I am ok with trading him, though, for the right return. As much as I wouldn't want to in theory, you have to give to get, and if we make a small push, behind guys like Wallace and Aldridge, he might be what it takes to get it done.

Around late 1st, there's Singleton, honeycutt, Thom[pson, harris who all could be aroundd there.

    I'm calling it now:

    Chandler Parsons > Kyle Singler

    Agreed.

Singler is good at team defense, but unless he is on an amazing defensive team, he will get picked apart. Can't guard SFs or PFs by himself. He's also not any more than an average shooter.

Kyle Singer has that Arvydas Sabonis leap:

    Standing vertical: 23"
    Max vertical: 30"

I was super young when Nash came into the league, but I heard some analysts comparing Jimmer to Nash and saying Nash was more of a scoring guard out of college, but changed his game out of necessity. Is that accurate?

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

If ever there was somebody who should have a rooting interest in Kyle Singler it would be me. He's from my hometown, he went to the same high-school I graduated from. But the guy for all his smarts and supposed "solid D" in the college game, looks like a guy who will have a very, very tough time making the jump to the pros. Derrick Williams (who I think is a tweener and will probably also struggle a bit in the pros) absolutely manhandled him in the NCAA tournament this year. When a guy who is supposedly physically mature gets pushed around the way he did, you cringe when you think about him playing against the much more physically gifted bigs at the next level.

Well for one thing Singler played power forward in college, so it's doubtful that he'll be a three in the NBA (especially given his athletic limitations) To your larger point about trading Batum for a point guard and drafting a reserve 3, that's all well and good, but who is going to trade a young starting quality point for Nic? Maybe there's some theoretical deal to made floating around out there, but right now I'm not sure I see it. Realistically, If this team wants a young "point guard of the future," it's either going to take more ammo than Batum to get one or they are going to have to try and find a guy in the draft (again). Maybe that's Reggie jackson, maybe that's Darius Morris, or maybe another guy they have to trade up for.

Singler's standing vertical leap was 23 inches (tied for second worst in the combine). My vertical was 24 last time I had it measured. That's just ridiculous.

His max vertical was 25 inches. I know he's a big man but still. Jon Leuer is 1/4 of an inch shorter and has a max vert of 36.5".

I like Marshon Brooks for his ability to drive and create for himself. Something this team desperately needs. He has B-Roy feel to his game.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

To be fair, Greg Oden manhandled Joakim Noah and Al Horford in the NCAA tournament, and both of those players have turned out to be very good in the NBA. I'm not saying that will happen with Singler at all, but a projected #1 or #2 pick abusing a lesser player in college is somewhat commonplace. Williams, if drafted #2, will be compared with players pick in a similar spot. Singler will be compared with mid-to-late first round picks as a pro, at least in the beginning of his career.

im really liking reggie jackson, maybe he can be our rondo

also darius morris looks good around 2, his best case comp is andre miller, wouldnt mind having a young miller for the next 10 years, also he measured out at 6'5" in shoes, will likely stick as a big steady pg in the nba regardless.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

brooks looks like he should be able to step in and be pretty steady from the jump off, although, might not be that "upside"...

he really does look like kobe, although i read somewhere he modeled his game after him, down to his walk and everything lol...someone made a good point, that he modeled his game after a 32 year old kobe, because he lacks the athleticism of a younger kobe, and if so, a 32 year old kobe clone wouldnt be the worse thing on the team
