So we should just hand over the title to Boston now, right?

That was some garbage officiating, especially in the 4th. There was A LOT of BS ticky-tack fouls that were being called tonight that shouldn't be called. Did the refs forget that it was the NBA Finals? I'm just curious. You have to let some of those calls go and let the players decide the game instead of deciding it for them.

Whatever though, the officiating was awful both ways, but it just seemed to be worse in the 4th than the rest of the game, with the Lakers getting called for way too many bad calls (the one that really sticks out was the Artest offensive foul that he fouled out on and Kobe's 5th when he barely bumped Allen). The out of bounds ball that they went to replay to look at was also wrong (with all three of the commentators noting this as well), and I thought that was a huge momentum shift for the Celtics, giving them an extra chance when they shouldn't have had one.

The one positive that came out of tonight was Bynum. He was absolutely beasting it tonight and impressed the hell out of me, especially with his 7 blocks. He was dominant on the defensive end and was putting the ball in the hoop when given the chance on offense. I don't think we'll lose this series if he can keep up that kind of play.

At least the Celtics weren't terribly impressive tonight. Rondo bailed them out big in the 4th and Ray Allen was the only reason why they were up in the first half. We just need to close out on the three point shooters and crash the boards and we'll be ok.

Why's that? The Celtics weren't that impressive tonight. If it wasn't for Allen in the first half and Rondo in the 4th, we're up 2-0. Pierce played like trash on offense and KG was basically non-existent. We were right close despite the fact that Kobe couldn't play his game in the 4th because of the foul trouble. I think if Bynum keeps showing up like this, we'll still take this series. I'm not worried right now, despite the loss. The Celtics just weren't that impressive and Kobe didn't have his best game tonight, so I'm still VERY confident that we can take this series and take the next game in Boston.

On a sidenote - I hate the 2-3-2 format. It needs to be changed to 2-2-1-1-1 like the rest of the playoffs.

I'm saying it was horrible on both sides, but it just seemed like the 4th quarter we couldn't do anything because of it. Kobe was basically taken out of his game because of the officiating, Artest fouled out on an AWFUL call, the officials missed an obvious out of bounds on KG. Whatever though, I'm not going to blame officiating for the loss, because we certainly could have and should have played better. We were awful at defending the three point line and played an overall garbage 4th quarter on both ends of the court. We have to tighten up the defense if we're going to win this series.

And FWIW, the fouls were actually dead even at 29 apiece, despite us having a decided advantage on that going in to the 4th.

Re: NBA Finals: Boston Celtics vs. LA Lakers (1-1 tied series)

I don't think a lot of Celtics played terrible. KG was awful tonight and Pierce was horrid offensively, his defense was solid though. Their issue is they haven't had all four of their key players put together a good game on the same night.

I'm hoping the FT differential doesn't pop up again on the road. I'm not sure why it's so bad, but it has been, and that is in dire need of changing.

And I do expect a drop-off from Bynum on the road, mainly because of his knee. But hey, I didn't expect him to play this well in the series, so maybe he'll surprise me. We sure do need him to at least play big on defense though if we're going to win.

It was fair enough, which is why I'm not blaming officiating for the loss, but it was still a poorly called game overall.

WOW! do I see a Lakers fan complaining about the refs? I've seen it all now. FTA 41-26 and it wasn't that close for most of the game.

I'm getting a feeling Boston is just going to be playing even better come Game 3. Specifically KG and Pierce. We'll see.

But fuck, I wanted to lead 2-0.

I'm SOOOO upset. The Lakers aren't gonna sweep :( They hafta play that 5th game, and Kobe needs the rest :(

In all seriousness, this game was laughable.
Refs threw it away. I'm calling it a thrown game (3/5 Kobe calls were DEFINITE non-fouls, ball off KG).

NBA ratings are high, they need to make their money.

ON A BRIGHT NOTE, ANDREW BYNUM=BEAST!
    Gasol was HUGE.

Kobe in foul trouble?!?!? This happens like once every 3 yrs.

    Bitch Allen 8 three pointers?

    Lakers in 6.
    Not even worried.

Well, you'd hope they play better at home, and honestly, they can't play much worse offensively than they did tonight.

Wow, Laker fans are the biggest cry babies of all. The officiating was bad, but if anything, it has favored you guys big time. You guys are crying about the refs? Wow...

Great game by Boston tonight, very impressed with how they came back from game 1. Sad thing is, I knew it was going to happen, too.

Bynum was our only player to show up. Did anyone else know it was a crucial game? Throw the box score out of the window, Gasol was a pussy tonight. Where to even start?

I'll start with the leader...Kobe. Horrific game from him tonight. I'm not going to bitch about some of the fouls calls on him being pure BS, because that didn't lose us the game. The fouls were even @ 29, but we had a big edge in FT shots. The refs have been horrible both ways in this series. Kobe came out way too passive tonight. Fuck setting the others up dude, this is the NBA Finals. Come out and be aggressive. He wasn't driving to the hoop like he did in game 1 and didn't look to establish his jumper early. Horrible game plan by home. Hopefully us losing home court doesn't fuck us in the ass. All we need is 1 of the 3 in Boston to bring this shit back to L.A. Get it done.

Gasol's box score might be nice, but the dude was straight pussy tonight. When Kobe was out of the game, Gasol did not step up and become aggressive. Instead he let Farmar dribble the ball for about 20 seconds and then pass it out. He also left Artest in a few horrible situations by passing him the ball with the shot clock expiring. If you want to bark like a big dog, get your head into the game mentally. You were so great in game 1, but so 2008 tonight.

Artest had a horrific game. I don't know what he was doing out there, but it was disgusting. He did get 2 horrible calls against him, but who cares? It's going to happen. I'm curious to see how he rebounds from this abysmal game.

And Lamar Odom, lol. What a piece of garbage so far in this series. Early foul trouble in both games? Now we expect this mental midget to show up in Boston? God help us. Prove me wrong, please. Do something worth while. If not, maybe we can trade you to Miami :] since you want to be there and all...

I expect Kobe to come out very aggressive in game 3. Boston also has no answer for Bynum, so keep trying to get him easy buckets or get him the ball when he's got great position. He had KG and Perkins in foul trouble every time they were on him. He's too big and strong for both of them, so pound it to him. Fuck this pecking order, food-chain list that the Lakers' think they have. Play to your strengths. Aggressive Kobe and an aggressive Bynum all day, all game baby.

Now, I'd love to take game 3, but I think realistically our best shot is to take game 4. I want 2 of the 3 in Boston, but I find that very hard to do. If we can take game 3, momentum will be with us. Either way, I still expect to win this series. Let's go Lakers!

The refs were not an issue tonight...

some bad calls were made, but look at both games, tick tack fouls have been called on both teams.

The funny thing is that Kobe could have been called for his 6th on that Allen fast break layup, but they swallowed the whistle, like they should have.

I wouldn't say it favored us big time. The only reason why there was such a big difference in FTA's is because we pound the post a lot more than you guys do.

Drew played great today, he deserves major props.

I didn't have a problem with Pau, he didn't have a great game, but his scoring kept us in it because Kobe was pretty passive / in foul trouble for the majority of the game.

Beyond that, I agree with everything you said. Ron Artest didn't show up tonight, and LO was MIA yet again. We'll need better play from this team if we're gonna win on the road.

So shooting way more FTs doesn't favor a team? Also, Boston is clearly the more physical team, ask Phil. The tighter the refs call the game, the worse off the Celtics are.

Exactly. The reffing did slightly favor the C's more than the Lakers though........did you guys watch the game??? LOL

But w/e, its part of the game. I almost expected there to be a split with the 2 games. We won't lose 4 in a row, so we are gonna get HCA back. NO worries. Best big in the league, best player in the league, AND best coach in the league???

I'm not worried. Tuesday is gonna be a fun night. Expect Ray Allen to hit 8 3s again. HAHAHA

If Pau wants to be 2nd on this so called food chain Kobe says we have, then he needs to step up and demand the ball when Kobe's on the bench. He did have a good game, but he was not a leader tonight.
