Two missed free throws, so many clutch rebounds missed, AND a missed dunk? Not to mention the iffy defense on Pau. He jumped at every small pump fake. Hm.
Kobe NEEDS to start playing like the MVP. I HATE seeing Paul Pierce kill us like this. We need a bigger body (Lamar Odom) on him. I remember when Odom had to cover Marion, and he OWNED him. Derek Fisher, DEFENSE IS PLAYED WITH YOUR LEGS, NOT YOUR HANDS. SCREEN AND ROLL, c'mon guys, defend that. AND BOX OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lamar's length would slow down Pierce.
I'm highly indifferent on last nights game. On one hand, I'm glad we won, hell, extremely thrilled we won. On the other hand, I still want to know why the hell we keep collapsing on huge leads. So, as far as the game itself went. I honestly can't say that I was impressed by the Lakers. Kobe looked like crap on offense and in general, the Lakers defense wasn't all that great. I believe it was Mark Jackson who made a great point. The Lakers were having to work a lot harder than the Celtics were to score near the end. The Celtics always seemed to find a way to get an easy layup somehow, while the Lakers had to get tough shots. Gasol, on the other hand, was MUCH better tonight. He actually took it to the hole more aggressively than usual. His defense was solid as well - much like it has been all series. I also saw him, for the first time all series, play 7 feet tall when he was going up for rebounds. He was getting position and not letting the Celtics outwork him every time. To say the least, it was nice to see Gasol step and have the big game, and in my opinion, he was definitely the player of the game for the Lakers. Odom was also great. He didn't have a great first quarter this game, but he was damn good the rest of the game. He didn't settle for too many jump shots and took it to the hoop. To show his confidence, he even pulled up for a three in transition, not something you see too often from him. But, between him and Gasol, our frontcourt was really the difference. They were clearly better than the Celtics frontcourt for a change, which was a very nice change of pace. They were more aggressive offensively, defensively, and much more aggressive going to the boards than they have been all series. Despite the positives though, there were still a lot of things that went wrong. The 2nd quarter was just ugly. The Lakers could score and couldn't stop the Celtics while they were at it. Paul Pierce absolutely torched the Lakers last night too. Isn't it clear that Radman can't defend him? Phil needs to put Kobe or Odom on Pierce in game six, cause that's the only way they're going to slow him down. Kobe, obviously is the best defender on the team would be able to do a solid job, though it might expend him too much and he might not be great offensively, while Odom's length could definitely bother Pierce. Last thing to put out there, TOO MANY THREES! I realize we knocked a few down in the first, but they got enamored with the three point shot. Last I knew we were something like 8/24 from the arc, which is horrendous to say the least. They need to ease it up from three point range and go to the hoop more often. In the end, again, I'm indifferent with the performance. The Lakers won, so that's good, but they didn't look that great doing it. If they're going to win, they need to find a way to hold on to big leads. When they've got the Celts down big, you need to just put the foot down and not give in, and they haven't been able to do that. But hey, a wins a win and we just need to win two now. Not too hard, right? Oh, and in case anyone cares, I actually got to watch the live broadcast last night instead of tape delay on ESPN at 2am. They thankfully stopped showing flood coverage for a change.

Anyway on last nights game, I think that 2nd quarter was the biggest difference and I really think that was due to a poor rotation with poor defense....putting Luke Walton and Chris Mihm out there at the same time is just asking for an ass kicking....I'd rather see Newble and Mbenga because at least those two will play defense. On another note, Farmar is much faster than House or Cassel and his ball pressure on them has put Boston in a position to score on a shorter shot clock. This matchup will be great for us to exploit especially seeing how when Doc has Rondo in there, Kobe plays a roaming defense which has kept KG from going off. Another thing, when Pau plays with a purpose in the post and plays with aggression rather than looking for cutters to pass out to or just standing there while Kobe drives to make his move or taking jumpers. When he plays hard and is the aggressor he has managed to get KG into foul trouble and score on him in the post. We need to milk these two matchup issues that are in our favor, and Lamar just needs to be more focused like he was last night. Another note, on those little touch And 1's both Pau and Lamar need to go up for a dunk, not a layup, they need to play with power and we know they can, we've all seen it before. If we can get these matchups going and our shooters our shooting at their averages, this will open the court up for Kobe, as it will keep Boston honest on who they are defending. By the way, Fisher drove in for layups....twice last night....

Heard from the grapevine: That was a foul and not a clean steal. He basically disrespected the game with that play. Kobe Bryant is living in fantasyland and if I were coaching the Lakers, I would bench him for game 6 of the finals. George Karl

Game 3 wasn't THAT long ago, the Celtics aren't the most mentally strong team either. Granted, neither have been too mentally strong, but it is a near tossup with all these close games. None of them have been a blowout.
I find the criticism of Kobe hilarious coming from a fan of a team whose leader has never been out of the 1st round. DREAM, did you forget Kobe in game 3?
