<div class="quote_poster">Run BJM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">It would be ridiculous to have a guy who hasn't played any games in the NBA to be in the dunk contest. At least have role players or "rising stars" in there. Maybe Iguodala if he wants to come back or Rudy Gay.</div> Why would it be ridiculous? This contest is all about entertainment and doesn't effect the league. James White is on an NBA roster, he was drafted in the 2nd round, and he's undeniably one of the best dunkers in the world. This contest is all about showmanship, why wouldn't you want one of the best out there performing? Who's to say James White isn't a rising star? He's just on a deep veteran roster and has to learn the system before Popovich gives him an opportunity. There just isn't any playing time when you have Brent Barry, Manu, Finley, and Bowen ahead of you.
If you're complaining about this being a Rising Stars dunk competition, yet defending Tyrus who has been nothing short of abysmal this year, you need to get some stuff checked upstairs. James White has had nearly the impact of Tyrus this year...nothing. If Tyrus got an invite, White should've.
Desmond Mason is a punk. <div class="quote_poster">Premium Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Allow me to put it in persepctive for you. The dunk contest is for the fans...to know that someone is going out there, not interested in putting a show on for the fans, no desire to compete and win, or entertain, kind of makes it pointless. I know that I don't want to watch someone take up a spot in the dunk contest if they pretty much aren't even going to try out there. Furthermore, this guys is making what? $3.2 million dollars, and he's willing to participate in a dunk contest that he's not even interested in for a measly $16K?</div> Ok, fine...he doesn't care about the fans, but he would obviously have to put on a show (for the fans) if he wanted that check...esecially if that was the sole reason why he was going there.

He could pull a Chris Andreson and still get the money

They'd be the most entertaining. White doesn't have any more NBA playing time than they do, maybe they're rising stars too if they got a shot in the NBA. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Not really. Obviously he'd still make money but if he is truly "all about the free money" he'd try to get more of it. Pretty disgusting too because, as I think someone mentioned here, most players donate the money they make here to charity or to their old school. Thomas was a very high pick so hes not struggling financially like a guy picked in the second round might be, hes really showing how truly greedy he is.

The NBA allowed Craig Hodges to compete in a 3point contest one year, and he wasn't even in the league at the time. So it's not unprecendented.
What About replacing him with Rudy Tomjonavich (mis spell) and he will be how its like to get a bs score....wait i can't be bs if its true the same thing happen to Voshon Lenard but thats because he was the def.champ put some one like Travis Outlaw or something
those contracts arent guranteed though, there is a reason why they do interviews and team events. By the time u pay ur agent and get the special treatment from uncle sam he is not making as much as people think he is. Free money is free money. I dont blame him for it but to say that publicly is a different thing.. he obvisously hasnt met david stern yet

Welcome to life. He may not clear $3.2 million, but he's still a millionaire. Not to mention all the perks, free crap he gets, and endoresments. But you're right...it's one thing to just think that way, but to say it publically is a different story. As someone who's not making anywhere close to a million dollars a year, it sickens me to hear a someone in his position say something like that.
Sir Charles just said: I'm glad he's still alive, I forgot he was in the league." LOL, funniest thing I've heard today.
