<div class="quote_poster">Quoting phunDamentalz:</div><div class="quote_post">You forget that Houston, coached by a defensive specialist playoff veteran coach LOST to Nowitzki and some ROLE PLAYERS coached by a guy in his first playoffs as a coach. This offseason they added Stromile and Derek Anderson. wow. Those guys are known for turning teams around. Houston will be lucky to get in the top 4 in the west, let alone the entire league, that's just preposterous. nba.com's power rankings is probably devised by yaolover23 or tmacforprez192. I believe Sac, San Antonio, Dallas, and Phoenix will all win more games than Houston next year. So I guess I'm saying they're the 5th best team in the west. Not only that but i wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers or Minnesota end up with a better record. You have to look at the team, the system and how long they've been playing together. Who runs the offense? Bob Sura?? He is no Tony Parker Mike Bibby or Steve Nash. You don't win games by adding as many "names" as possible. All the recent NBA champions have won because of the overall system with a couple of very strong players and a number of role players not because they loaded up with talents. That's why Miami and Houston are overrated going into next year. Playing together is huge. See Indiana, Sacramento and San Antonio as to why playing together leads to consistency. The Rockets. . . They MIGHT win a playoff series this year.

one more reason why houston is not a good team - their ball movement is horrible. probably the worst team at ball movement from last years playoff teams</div>
That was a great post and I can't say I don't agree with some of the points you mentioned. Yes, the Rockets have not been together long but the chemistry is there. Once Sura got accustomed to the offensive setup, the Rockets went on runs and went from 17-17 to 51-31. Playing longer together definitely helps, but if the team can be as efficient as last year's, we'll be fine.

You mention Dallas being made up Nowitzki and some role players. I surely don't consider the Michael Finley of a season ago a role player. Looking at the Rockets, you also only have Yao and McGrady and a bunch of role players. There wasn't much difference between the two teams last year, they had the same makeup, except that Dallas had more youth and depth. Considering the fact that we had our best player take on the biggest responsibility on both sides of the floor, I consider the season of 04-05 a huge success.

Yes, the ball movement of the team was pretty bad last year, but it's supposed to be like that. When you have two players who need time to set up before taking their shots, you definitely won't see that team leading the league in assists. The Bobcats had better ball movement than the Rockets last summer. But if that kind of awful ball movement is what gets you 51 wins, I'll take it.

I take it you don't watch the Rockets that much. First off, by saying that the Lakers and Minnesota might be just as good, or better is very inaccurate. They're both teams we OWNED last year. What makes you think they're able to get as many wins as us. Phoenix had a DISGUSTING offseason. They lost most of they're weapons, and in return got Kurt "too small to be a center" Thomas. Dallas didn't turn any heads this offseason. Losing Finley will hurt them. San Antonio will be GREAT. Sacremento did well, but still have no answer for Yao or Tmac.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting phunDamentalz:</div><div class="quote_post"> You have to look at the team, the system and how long they've been playing together. Who runs the offense? Obcourse Bob Sura isn't a Steve Nash, but that's a very weak statement. Who ran the point on the Lakers championship team, Ron Harper? Derek Fisher? We have a similar team, Tmac will be handling the ball most nights anyway. I don't know about just "adding names" but with our "overrall system" last year, we won 50 plus games (pretty darn good). Keep in mind that we kept our core together too. So "playing together" won't be that much of a problem. It's interesting how your so critical on Houston, but your so quick to praise Sacramento [IMG] We had a better team than them last year, and they lost in the first round too, they MIGHT finish behind us like they did last season. Most fans agree with the rankings. The Rockets earned they're respect by playing killer defense, I don't expect anything to change.

Man watch Yao just prove the haters wrong next year and dunk the ball over B Miller hitting him on his head after it goes through the rim.

I dont care what you think. Miami will beat the Spurs. OH WOW, just because the Lakers ****** up on series, all all-star lineups should collapse right? w/e...They don't have Karl malons and Gary Payton (bad luck charms), who always got close to the champ, but never tasted it.

I can't believe this ****. Smell a knicks fan...Man, its okay Olajuwan wasnt THAT much better than EWING.

Not THAT much. But VERY MUCH!

Man, sometimes all people see is numbers and stats. We were cheated that Dallas series. I KNOW WE COULD HAVE TAKEN THE SUNS IN THE SECOND ROUND! T-Mac could have contained him, if not Amare, Having T-Mac scoring against Amare will gets you more points than Amare scoring against T-Mac.

Then Tim would have killed us in the Finals. If we had Howard to hold him down from 45 point games, then we might have been able to push that series to 6 maybe 7 games.

man, igotask8board your arrogance and gloating gives Rocket fans a bad name...

It will be interesting how the Rocket's team comes together next year. I think one of the crucial signings for the Rockets was re-signing Dekembe to a 2 year contract. He played some amazing and crucial defense whenever Yao got into foul trouble. I was amazed at how effective Dekembe still was at age 39.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Thats BS. We played them the first game of the season WHEN WE SUCKED and couldn't even pass the .5 W-L. We lacked team chemistry and they had just won the championship.</div>

Newsflash, the Pistons weren't that great to start last season either. Don't make excuses about chemistry. Facts are facts. The Rockets struggle with the Pistons and the way they play defense. Mainly due to the fact Yao always struggles at the palace and T-mac always had Prince in his face

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The second time we played them, we were 6-10 W-L. We still sucked and lacked team Chemistry. I remember T-Mac still hadn't even stepped up. Jim Jackson scored more than him and more than Yao that game.</div>

More excuses. Facts remain the Pistons beat you in your own house by 21 points.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If we played Detroint later on the season (like before the all star break when we we had like 9 wins in a row) we would have KILLED THEM. We redeemed ourselves after being 17-17, finished the season 51-31, and took the 4tb seed. Detroit only finished the season 54-28 AND THEY ARE IN THE EAST.</div>

So you would of beat the Pistons later on in the season when the Pistons were on form? yeah riight. The Pistons started off slow last year due to Larry Brown's mind games and injures. The Pistons are built for the playoffs and the way the team is made, playoffs is where the Pistons step up their games. They slacked off in the early part of the year. Being the champs played a big part in that and everyone wanting to beat them. Using just records to prove your point is garbage.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Houston was better then them last year, and will beat them BADLY this year.</div>

How exactly were you better than the Pistons last year? you lost to Dallas in 7 games. The Pistons made to the finals and beat a better team than you the Heat and took the best in the west to 7 games in the NBA finals. You really are the biggest homer I have ever seen. The Rockets weren't on the Pistons level last season. Only the fair few were.
    This year:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Yao kills ben</div>

Funny, I always see Ben dominate Yao every time they meet. I don't even think Yao shoots over 45% against Ben when they match-up. So I don't see how Yao kills Ben in anything but scoring. Ben does everything else FAR better.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rasheed is a little better than Swift (but not better than Swift and Howard)</div>

Now I know you are the biggest homer on the planet. Juwan FREAKING Howard? since when was he ever a name you could put in the same sentance as Rasheed? Sheed is better offensively than both combine and 10 times better defensively. Rasheed is at least the 2nd best defensive one on one power forward in the league.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">T-Mac kills Prince</div>

Maybe on talent but Prince has always played him well. Shut him down both games last season.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Anderson and Hamilton are the same</div>

LMAO!!!!! Derek freaking Anderson is as good as Rip Hamilton? what planet are you on? do you even watch the NBA? DA is injury prone who can play when heathly but Rip Hamilton is one of the best guards in the east and the NBA. Don't ever put Anderson in the same sentence as Rip.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sura/James can neutralize billups.</div>

Yes the two guys who played behind Billups in Detroit are going to neutralize him [IMG] [IMG] get out of here with that garbage

I don't know about previous seasons, but in two games against Detroit last season, Yao averaged just 13 and 8.5. He shot just 44% and had 2.5 turnovers per game.

TMac also averaged just 17 points against Detroit last season and shot 40%.

Some of you guys need to chill out, we are gonna be good, but your exxagerating makes us sound like we suck. You really cant make any conclusions at all right now, way too early. The rockets have significantly upgraded though. The PF spot had a bunch of one dimensional guys, swift means a lot more than people think. And DA, he finally gives us hieght and speed at the 2, and most of all, a backup to tmac, which allows him to get some rest this season. Yao Ming's arms look quite a few inches thicker too, which could mean more aggresiveness, the thing everyone complains about.

I speak for my self only. These ARE MY OPINIONS. Am I the Rockets spokesperson or sum shyt like that?

If I believe Rockets are the 4th/5th best team in the league, then THAT IS MY OPINION. Don't stick it to the rest of the Rockets fans. I honestly do believe that we are simply better than Detroit this year. I may be right, I may be wrong.

seriously, don't try to make me look like a dumbass fanboy who only knows how to praise his team. The last few years, I never said shyt about how great the Rockets were. (I have been reading these forums for years now, but barely began posting here). This year, we have fulfilled all of the rockets needs, Yao has trained hard, and our team chemistry has clicked since last semi-season.

Most people, who acctually watch the Rockets, would agree with me and call the Rockets the better team out of them and Detroit.

Only very biased Rockets fans would ever think that the Rockets are better than the Pistons. The Pistons are an elite team and a championship contender. NBA champions two years ago. The Rockets still have a long way to go to be called a contender. So how you actually think other people would rank the Rockets ahead of Detroit is beyond me.

Not me...I watched atleast 90% of the Rockets games, including every game of the playoffs, and I dont think they're better than last year's pistons...this year? who knows because, as I mentioned earlier, they were built under Larry Brown so they were a defensive, halfcourt unit...and now they've hired a head coach who is offensive-minded and not very acute on the defensive end...just seems like an uneven mix...

Do I think we're the best team in basketball? Hell no...we have to prove ourselves, and thats gonna be a long wait because no real proof can be provided until playoff time...do we have the players and coaching staff to be an elite powerhouse? yes, I believe we do...however, as of now, on paper, we're not better than san antonio, miami, indiana, and possibly detroit (again, I said 'on paper' and I still think detroit wont have the depth we do, which will also be a problem because flip relies more on his bench a whole lot more than LB did)...

we're a top 5 team is what we are...championship contenders? no...do we have the POTENTIAL to be championship contenders this season and/or in the near future? Of course..but right now, all rockets fans or this team have right now is potential...

To get to the finals, all they had to beat was ummmmmmm PHILAFUCKINGDELPHIA, AND INDIANA? The Rockets beat them to last year. And in a seven game series, the Rockets would have easily advanced the two.

As for Miami, we split with them...I still think they had the better team though. Quit giving Detroit so much credit. The East flat out sux. Miami should have won against Detroit any ways. I honestly think in a 7 game series, the Rockets would beat Detroint in 6 this year.

Ok, I got a little carried away a little better. He is just better. He only scores 4.9 PPG more than Howard, gets 2.5 more boards per game, and howard scores 45%FG, while Rasheed is 44%. Rasheed does have great defense, but Howard has good defense as well.

I KNOW Rasheed may help Det, but he wont be the difference maker. You made it sound as if he is some extraordinary player, but as I just pointed out, he is better than Howard. WOW.

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">

Tracy still scored 18 and 16 points the times they met.. PFFT SHUT HIM DOWN? This was before T-Mac took over the team. He stepped up when we played Dallas the VERY NEXT GAME WHEN JEFF VAN GUNDY ASKED HIM 2. He scored 48 points that game. We were 6-10 when we faced Detroit, and after T-Mac stepped up, we began to win games left and right.

    hypocrite.

Rip is the only guy on Detroit, that I like to watch. He reminds me of Reggie Miller. I apologize for putting him in the same sentence as Derek Anderson.
I do think the T-Mac-Anderson Duo are better than the Prince-Rip Duo.

Any one would take T-Mac and Anderson Rip and Prince. Are you happy now?

    <div class="quote_poster">Quoting AllNet:</div><div class="quote_post">
Yes the two guys who played behind Billups in Detroit are going to neutralize him [IMG] [IMG] get out of here with that garbage</div>

I DEFIDENTLY BELIEVE THAT JAMES AND SURA ARE ABOUT THE SAME AS BILLUPS AND WHOEVER THE HELL BACKS HIM UP! When Sura and James play 24 minutes each (like they did for the most of the season, well ever since we got james, and sura was not injured) We got 21 PPG, 5RPG, and about 8 Assissts per game. I am sure that is about the same, if not more than Detroits PG situation.

Back to Rasheed. I remember Rasheed and Swift colliding last year. I remember Swift scoring more points over swift and having a higher FG%. Swift had like 12 points while Rasheed only managed to get 7 over Swift.

Our PF spot of Howard and Swift should be able to equal Rasheed. Don't bash me for believing this. You will see though.

Fri 18 Houston vs. Detroit 8:30pm Ch.51 ESPN, I can wait. November 18.

Detroit only had 54 wins last year, and they were in the fucking east. We are in the west and managed to get 51 wins. In my book, if the Rockets were in the east, they should have had like 56-57 wins.

I still believe that the Rockets are the better team. This year they should prove that. (I personally hate detroit, and they seriously need to fall off there game already, they don't deserve more air time than the Bobcats do)

    Screw arguing with you.

I honestly believe Detroit will fall off this season. I consider them lower than Atlanta on my list. W/E you say wont change that. Even if they are the #1 seed in the east, they will always suck. They can win 10 championships in a row, but they still suck. I hate there style of play THAT MUCH.

I can wait...November 18,2005 even after JUST PLAYING SANANTONIO THE NIGHT BEFORE, we will OWN Detroit. I am sure. If I am wrong, I wont post here any more. Unless there is an injury, or something else that screws us over, we will beat Detroit both times we meet them this year.

We will have more wins than Detroit (including the fact that we are in the WEST) this year as well.

im sorry to say but u lost my respect. I was on your side until you said this.
first u say your not going to argue and then u start with your arguement. Then you say they arent better than atlanta and then state that they might be #1 in the east and if they are then they suck!!!
to be #1 in a conference does not mean you suck. They will always suck?? they didn't suck when they won the championship.
the pistons are the only proven team in the east. Miami hasnt proven itself with all its new players. Indiana is recieving harsh critism about what to expect and cleveland is an open question.

theres more but i think youll get the rest from others

igotask8board you are simply a disgrace and not worth replying to. I shouldn't of wasted my time in the first place bothering with you

You are the most biased idiotic fan I have ever seen on a message board.

I will be surprised If you even last the season. We don't need people like you on this board. You are making so many Rocket fans look bad.

You mentioning Atlanta shows how bad a poster you truely are.

I honestly believe Detroit will fall off this season. I consider them lower than Atlanta on my list. W/E you say wont change that. Even if they are the #1 seed in the east, they will always suck. They can win 10 championships in a row, but they still suck. I hate there style of play THAT MUCH.

Igotaskateboard not only swears in his posts and spurts out ridiculously biased opinions, but he also breaks dozens of other JBB rules. Anybody that wouldn't respect a team after a chips in a row doesn't deserve to watch basketball. To put Detroit on a level lower then Atlanta is beyond ludicrous. This guy's giving me and a lot of others bad impressions about Rocket fans, and I can't wait until Detroit takes their shot at Houston, and I'm not even a Pistons fan.

Anyway, about the rankings, Chicago, Utah, and GSW are too low, and PHilly is way too high.

philly has high expectations and GSW are injury prone. Chicago hasnt resigned curry yet thats why they are low. As for utah, they should be higher
