Skal's salary was really 4.8 because of the luxury tax. We sent 2 million in the deal so savings is 2.8.
Well it does two things. 1. Getting out of the tax this year will not make us a repeater next year. 2. Opens up a roster spot. This wasn't just an immediate financial saving.
Does anyone else think GS is running the same script the Spurs did in 97 when The Admiral was hurt? Just endure a year of suck and reload with talent when everyone returns.
No, a protected first and second for next year, and they gave up the guys they drafted in the first round the last two years
assume about 2/3 of his salary has been paid. So the Blazers save 700-800K in salary. But his full salary is applied to the tax, so the tax on his salary was probably in the 3.6M range. Blazers would save 4.4-4.5M total, less whatever cash they are sending
I thought the 1st was top-three protected this year and unprotected next year. And those 1st round picks were pretty much 2nd rounders with guaranteed contracts. I love this move for GS.
