Hoyas, Hoosiers set for Sunday final

Maryland and Georgetown played to a pulsating 4-4 draw in the College Cup semifinals on Friday night, with the Hoyas eventually winning 4-3 on penalty kicks to book a ticket to their first national championship appearance.

Indiana Hoosiers, who qualified for a record 14th trip to the College Cup final with a 1-0 win over Creighton later Friday night. “For me, growing up in Bloomington, it’s special,” senior defender Caleb Konstanski told reporters. “You grow up watching the teams bring back national titles and coming here as freshman that was the goal to bring the team back. It was a long process, but this is such an unbelievable feeling.”

    NCAA Recap:
Hoosiers take record 8th College Cup title

Nikita Kotlov’s 63rd minute goal and some trademark defending was enough for Todd Yeagley’s Indiana University side to claim their eighth national title, shutting out a game but tired Georgetown team 1-0 in Sunday’s College Cup final.

The Hoosiers shutout each of their last three opponents, and won both of their College Cup games 1-0.

2013 College Soccer News Preseason Top 30 National Poll
    [IMG]

    1. Indiana
The 2012 National Champions return eight starters including a stellar midfield that includes seniors A.J. Corrado (1g, 12a), Nikita Kotlov (9g, 4a), Jacob Bushue (1g, 5a) and Harrison Petts (1g, 2a). Add Dylan Mares who transfers in from Louisville and sophomore Richard Ballard among others to the mix and you have one of the top midfields in the country. The challenge is replacing the offensive firepower that left the building when Eriq Zavaleta (18g, 4a) elected to forgo his final two seasons of eligibility to enter the professional ranks. Solve that and the Hoosiers will be a team to recon with.
