I mean, you know guys aren't only good in their prime, right? You can get a guy that performs very well at 24, and pair him with a guy that is 28. Then, when that 28 year old is hitting 32, 33, your 24 year old is hitting his prime, and he's hitting it right as your 19, 20 year old draftee is hitting his time to be able to contribute quality minutes to the team. In that way, you're able to sustain success, hopefully, over many years, instead of going all in and, likely, failing, on a 2-3 year window.

This offseason is definitively "Strike II" for Neil Olshey.

Forget the excuses of "Davis can't spread the offense in the playoffs". Losing Ed Davis is going to hurt this team so bad in the regular season that the Blazers probably won't even make the playoffs this year.

Which is unfortunate since I'm not a big Olshey hater like most of the people in this sub are. I actually think he is a good drafter, doesn't rub other GMs the wrong way, and is someone players trust - which are actually much harder traits to find than people would think. But it would seem he's too comfortable with mediocrity than relying on his talents to chase after a grand vision. Ironically, this steadiness will get him the axe sooner or later (which he probably wants anyway).

Imo, he needs to just trade Aminu and Harkless for late first round picks and tank for a few years. Draft a stud and place next to an aging but still useful Lillard (who can probably play at an elite level until 32-33 and very good until 36).

If we miss the playoffs, this will be the reason why.

I like Wade B's toughness and Zach's edge, but we got WAY LESS tougher by losing our enforcer in Ed Davis..

Still wanna SLAP Olshey for telling him to take the offer...

    Bitch ass...

Hmm, I read an article today saying that they might bump it up to a felony and they have a video clearly showing Schroder as the attacker.

I think that was the last public information about it and they are still deciding what to officially charge him with.

I've read two things on this site today that bother me. 1. a poster who is close to the team feels like Ed Davis was the heart and soul of the team; and we know Olshey let him go even though we could have had him cheap. 2. a poster who has some inside sources says Blazers want Butler but not willing to offer CJ. Not smart and I agree with that poster that a Butler acquisition may be our only chance to significantly improve.

@yuyuza1 ...great post with all of Neil's quotes. However, you're not supposed to pay attention to what he actually says. You are supposed to be mesmerized by his hair and big words that he uses because, "look, people don't understand the ins and outs of these trade discussions and how they can bifurcate in different directions."

Honest question....what's the deal with the hair comments?....the dude has a crewcut and a cowlick....I don't see that as mesmerizing other than he's not bald or doesn't have a combover.....? I don't have issues with his explanations personally...somehow I think it's more of a thing about not liking his confidence than the substance of his content. All this seems to be stemming from folks who don't like him on a personal level....I don't think of him on a personal level...lot of impressive front office folks have less than appealing personalities...I just want him to make the team better, and I think he's trying to do that. He's a New Yorker born and bred....they can be irritable even ordering a cup of coffee in my experience

The hair comments at least from me are meant to be a joke, and he just seems like he spends a lot of time getting his hair done not a big deal, just a bad attempt at humor I guess.

How does that make sense? If all Schroder cared about was playing time he would’ve been content in Atlanta.

The Ed Davis reaction is still crazy to me. He got $4M for a year in Brooklyn. Had to take it.

Portland didn't want to spend $4M on someone taking minutes from Zach Collins (he would have, you can debate on center or forward its irrelevant) How many average big men are still jobless? Neil told Ed- be the first guy to sign because after that he might have been out of a job.

    Montrez Harrell - No team
    Beasley - No team
    T Booker - No team
    D West - No team
    G Monroe - No team
    Vonleh - No team
    Q Acy - No team

Of course everyone loved Ed. But cmon.

My concern isn't losing Ed the Enforcer, it's losing Ed the Talent. We have a dearth of talent in the frontcourt now.

    1. @HCP will be adding this post to his resume. @HCP feels a lot of things which have variable levels of merit.
    2. While I don't deny @TBpup 's sources, Olshey plays things very close to the vest. Part of the standard dogma on s2 is that Olshey "loves his players." While that is absolutely true to some extent, the extremes to which it is taken as gospel are demonstrably false.
