I recall the previous matchup vs Golden State. The Blazers smallball killed them which Nelson acknowledged in postgame comments. “We just didn’t get any performances out of our smalls. They went and matched up with us and their smalls beat our smalls.”-DN Eventually acknowledging that it wasn't happening this time and changing things up is to Nate's credit but I really don't see much in his strategy last night thats deserves blame. Giving what had previously worked a good shot to work again is what I'd hope a coach would do. STOMP
That was an awesome play. In the moment I was wondering why he didn't throw the ball up on the rim to try and get an "and one," but I think he was going in there with such a singular focus of getting Ellis to foul him that it just didn't occur to him. I've been a huge Andre Miller fan for years. Nearly all above-average starting NBA point guards have some combination of speed, athleticism and shooting ability. He has absolutely none of them, and he never really has. The guy is all about using his minor size advantage, a deft touch on the drive, great handle with a change-up pace, and a shitload of brains. And a can't-quit attitude that's led to a ridiculous games-played streak. I don't see how you can avoid respecting what Andre Miller has done over his career. If he had the physical ability of a guy like Sebastian Telfair, he'd be a hall of famer.
Not only was Nelson smug, I thought TNT was smug. They analzed the game from GS's perspective and gave very littel due to the Blazers or Roy for the night he had. After explaining why Gs lost that game, they starting talking about ROY during the highlights of the game. In fact at one point they talked about the tough NW division with Denver, Utah and OKC . . . they didn't even mention the Blazers after just showing a Blazer game/win. Blazers aren't getting much respect around the league . . . maybe it is deserved, but it sucks.
Smug as hell. One announcer was like, "Brandon Roy, former Pac-10 player of the year." For real? How about 3-time All-Star?!?
I wanted Miller badly when he played for Cleveland, so I was excited to finally get him on our team, even though he's much older now. I still think he's the perfect pointguard to help us win a title. Very Scottie Pippen-ish in his veteran wiles and play making. I would also like to point out that having Marcus Camby has made a difference. His rebounding is something we were sorely lacking with Greg and Joel out.
