    And yes, Mandela did "free" blacks in South Africa from apartheid - he waged war in order to do it.


    And yes, Mandela did institute "socialism" in South Africa and blacks in that country have with poverty and crime during the post apartheid era.


    Mandela is revered because that is what leftists who control the media and culture in the West do - revere leftists (duh!), and Mandela's leadership kept his country from breaking out into full-out civil war and complete dictatorship. In other words, by comparison to the other post colonial leaders in Africa he record looks fantastic.
