Physics stuff and some organizational theories for the Philippine Navy. Nothing special. Our government has a rather slowfoot way of addressing concerns. Oh well. Nice meeting you, friend. (",)

1. Location? Atlanta area
2. Favorite Current Nets player? probably Josh Boone. I think he has potential to be good tho' not great. Also since I lived in Harford area for 15 years after leaving Joisey. Let's put it this way, I look forward to his minutes to see how he will do.
3. Favorite Former Nets player? Buck Williams, Doctor J
4. Do you go to games, and how many? when they're in town against the Hawks
5. How long have you been a Nets' fan? saw them play the Pittsburgh Pipers on opening day. My dad took a buddy and me.
Damn! Big Dan Anderson showed so much potential that night...I thought he'd be the next Wilt when he outscored Connie Hawkins with something like 40 or 45. 'Bout 3 games later, he was averaging 10 as I remember it. Speaking of Wilt, I might be remembering wrong but I think he was at that game. I know he was at one. With the sparce Armory crowds, you couldn't miss him when the National Anthem was played and everyone stood. Still have 2 torn ticket stubs from that evening and a beat up penciled up program.
Later saw them play at the Nassau Coliseum, that-away-to-Piscataway and a few times at the Meadowlands (had moved to Ct. at about that point). I regret a lot that I never saw any games with Rick Barry.
6. How did you become a Nets' fan? Read about the ABA and the Americans in The Record, I think. Not really sure. Was it WJRZ that carried the games? That sustained my interest. I think there was either a guy called Spencer Ross or John Stirling or ?? that did the games.
7. Other teams in the NBA you root for? anyone playing the Knicks and the Celts. Tho' before the merger I rooted for the Knicks. They p'd me o. when the Nets had to deal Dr. J because of what the Nets owed the Knicks. Hated 'em ever since.
8. Other sports you enjoy? been getting into the UFC. Baseball lost me with the strike of '94 (see below)
9. What other sporting teams do you root for? NY Yankees but not like I once did. At one time I could've told you most of the players in the farm system. Now, I don't even know for sure who starts. Post-season fan, at best, these days.
10. What do you do for a living? software
11. If you are in or went to college where do/did you go? R.U. Rah, Rah.
12. What grade are you in? low :-)
13. Anything else you care to share? Not much into flame wars and if I feel I'm getting baited, I'm just not answering.

Did you ever see Melchionni play? I've read about him, he seems like a really good and interesting player.

Also, how was Connie Hawkins? Did he do any amazing dunks that game?

Well, I don't remember anything specifically about Melchionni other than impressions (from maybe as a sub in later years or TV?). He struck me as a point guard who didn't have a whole lot of natural talent but somehow managed to get the job done. Kinda sorta like Mark Jackson, in a way. One guy that did have a lot of natural gifts was the fellow that took his starting role away, namely Brian Taylor. I got a good look at him in an away game for Rutgers at Princeton. The fella could run, was quick, jump suprisingly well, and was generally pretty gifted. He destroyed us. It's a shame,..I think he got hurt and was never quite the same.
Keep in mind, the only way to follow the New York Nets in the earlier years were thru brief articles in the papers, the b-ball mags and maybe a quick mention on a news sports broadcast. I don't think I heard another game even on radio until the year the Nets were in ABA finals (and that was in New Brunswick not Bergen County where I am from). Later you could get a few NYN games on WPIX (?) or Channel 9 (?). Never made the trip into NY until I got to see a few games with Erving and by then the team had changed. Tho' I had lots of friends who followed basketball, it was hard to get anyone not interested more in seeing the Knicks.

Hawkins? did see him that night and in pretty good seats (how bad can seats be in an arena that holds 3-4000?), again iirc with the Suns vs. Knicks at MSG and, of course, on T.V. Guys back then didn't do as many intimidating "statement" dunks. What was fun about him was the moves he used to get to the hoop moreso than the verocity with which he threw it down. I can tell you this, it seemed as if the majority of the crowd was there that night were from across the river to see Connie Hawkins and not the New Jersey Americans; at least, in our section.

Changing the topic a little, another player that I always enjoyed seeing was Michael Ray Richardson. When he covered the passing lanes as the opposition brought the ball up, it seems like everyone else was in slow-motion. Don't ask me what I think about Darryl Dawkins, tho' who I'd say was lacking something for all of his size and ability. Can't remember once when he and Buck Williams when up in a crowd to rebound and it wasn't Buck that got the ball away from everyone else (including double D).

That's it for now. I'm sure my recollections are clouded with time. But it sure is fun here discussing the Nets.

it sure is fun hearing about the Nets of the ABA, too. I'm sure I missed out on ALOT of good stuff with them.

And I've read about Buck being a really good big, we could use him right now haha.

I'm thinking about taking up reading alot again (haha, ya...used to read alot, now not so much.) so i think i'm gonna look for a few books about Nets history, because it just seems so interesting to me, haha.
