Can the Nets even sign 15 players?
I thought the 14th guy would put them over the luxury tax.

i would love to get DA on this team. even when marcus comes back we dont have to rush him back and we can use DA at the point and marcus at the 2 like we saw sometimes with kidd and marcus ont he floor together. it makes us a deeper team with another guy who has experience to give us a better chance of winning. now when marcus is 100% i want marcus to be our featured backup because he could be the future of this team, but having DA as a 3rd string pg would be the best thing we can do. if we cant get him i hope he does go to the mavs or a west team and not the C's or heat in the east.
i think we are going to try to showcase Brob this preseason and hopefully someone can bite. i think he possible could be an ok player but i rather have his spot for some of the other guys in camp. would be fantastic if we could clear up brob and mile's spots. there are a few guys who i really like that are coming to camp and of course houston as a possibility.

Remember, the team went into the season the last two years $2 million over and by the trade deadline had gotten under. It's risky, but it's a risk the Nets have taken.
Andgetting under this season is not as lucrative as it was last year, thanks in large part to the Knicks.
There are two values to staying under the tax threshold. One is obvious. You don't have to pay a tax. The other is not so obvious: all the teams that don't go over get to share in the pool of money paid by those who do. Last year, that pool amounted to $55,564,006, of which $45,142,002 was paid by the Knicks. The 25 non-tax-paying teams each received 1/30 of the cumulative tax amount, which computed to nearly $1.9 million per team. This year, the Knicks will be about $22 million over and other teams, like the Mavs, will also pay less luxury tax. So the frugal teams will now get a lot less money from that pool, perhaps no more than $800,000 or so.
So last year, if you were $500,000 over, you had to pay $500,000 and forego the $1.9 million return. That's a loss of$2.5 million. This year, if you go over by $500,000, your cost is about half that.

I wonder how hard they tried with Knight...did he just want big minutes or somethin...?

I can see us packaging one of the 3rd wheels (Illic or Robinson) with Nachbar to get some of that lux tax room. That dumps about 3.5 off the lux tax. Can add up to 4 vet minimums assuming only 750,000 is counted against the lux tax for vet minimum signings.
