<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FOMW @ Jun 26 2008, 08:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>First of all, it's as plain as day that the Nets are nowhere near finished constructing this roster. They now have 7 players 6'9" and over, 8 if you include Diop. At least one of those players will be traded, probably two.

But if you look at the common denominator, it is all toward finding 4s and 5s that can spread the floor and SHOOT, presumably because the team's two best players and playmakers are slashing guards who could benefit from more open space near the basket or who could create good shots for guys like Yi and Anderson if their large defenders don't follow them out. The Nets were almost entirely a pick and roll/pick and pop team last year with a lot of secondary drives created first by the swing of the ball off high pick and rolls. The problem was the team only had one player who could roll (Boone) and only one who could pop (Krstic, who was very disappointing with his shot until late in the year). But just as Carter was the biggest factor in getting Mikki Moore a nice contract two years ago, he and Harris will do the same for guys like Yi, Lopez, and Anderson (as well as Krstic, if he returns to form).

I looked at clips of Ryan Anderson earlier today and studied his stats, and he is so fluid looking a shooter that I think he will be a GREAT addition to the team, possibly having more immediate impact than Lopez. Just imagine that Anderson will take all of Boki's minutes. He is noticeably bigger and more physical, enough to play the 4, and you have to believe that's a major upgrade. His stats and shot charts, even from the free throw line, indicate he will do a terrific job of opening space for Carter/Harris off drives and postups. The Nets will be able to play 48 minutes, if they choose to, with shooters at every position. That's something they haven't been able to do in . . . God knows when. Long before I started watching them intently.</div>

we've always gotten big shooting guys... ie krstic... and now yi... and now ryan anderson. We needed a traditional posting big man in brook lopez. But we needed to fill the spot of swingman that can shoot... we don't need another big that can shoot. I thought thats why we got Yi for. We are in a gap at swingman position now because of the RJ trade... we have no one backing up carter / simmons. Lee / donte green / CDR WOulda been a better fit

Your right he's not. But he's also not a great shot blocker, and when your constantly having some athletic stud driving to the basket on you, your team better have a great shotblocker or else it's gonna be a long night of foul trouble. Brook Lopez strikes me more as a good man to man defender, which we did need badly at the 5 spot.

I'm willing to place money that this guy sucks at defense and pisses me off throughout the season. Both our picks have sucked. Unless we trade, I am extremely disappointed.

I gotta wonder about future contracts of CDR vs Anderson, as far as their agents are concerned, I wonder if the longevity and price of their respective contracts was a consideration...

The Nets got a guy sorta like this that Philly took #2 overall.

LOL, we only got two of those three within the last few hours. How can you say we've "always gotten big shooting guys"?

He averaged almost the same amount of blocks as his brother, and many claims he's a great shot blocker.

Well as for my point of view, it's basically how many times can we avoid picking the best player available for some under the radar guy who eventually busts on us. Btw i don't really have a problem with the lopez pick, its the latter of the two that urks me.

NAME A BIG THAT HASN"T BEEN A SHOOTER AND BEEN A TRADITIONAL BIG MAN. THE LAST ONE WAS K-MART

Umm... i said we got Krstic. How about Scott Padgett, Marc Jackson. These guys don't post, they rely on their jumpshot. I'm saying we just picked up Yi who Thorn says has a terrific jumper... yet we pick another big guy with apparently a nice jumper as well. THen we have krstic who ALSO relies on his jumper. We needed a swingman/guard that can shoot 3's. Not another forward. Name a swingman / guard we have that is a pure shooter. Point proven. Courtnee Lee fills that need or CDR. We also needed defense... we all know CDR can play defense. Ryan Anderson's defense has been questioned.

Ryan Anderson Highlights (thank you NI)

Looks like a great shooter. He's sort of clumsy in the sense that he doesn't move quite like a SF (though he is mobile), but doesn't get physical like a PF (though he does like to scrap in the paint)

He's strictly below the rim, but did you see the range?

Such a quick release and you can't block his shot.

    Great hands, too.

I'm a bit surprised that we didn't take a shot at the high risk/high reward pick with Arthur. I like Anderson, but his upside is nowhere near Arthur's.

Taking CDR at 40th made this pick a bit less painful at first... but it kinda worked out for us.. I mean i was reading articles on Anderson and I stumbled upon something that wowed me.... He lead the pac-10 in points last season with 22pts per game and was third in boards with 9.9..... That is impressive in my books. And if im not mistaken Brook was in the Pac-10 as well and averaged 20 pts 8.2 boards. So basically together they averaged almost 40pts and 20 boards a game together.... Not bad.
It sounds to me like we are set at PF and C spots for now. Great picks.

    My 2 cents.
