o'neil will not help us. his stats have gone down the past 2-3 years, he gets injured frequently, and he's not that young. won't help us at all. may hurt us, if anything.

I think if you add O'Neal minus VC, you're getting better balance to your team. When you allow VC to dribble his way for a shot you basically eliminate, JKidd and RJ. It becomes 1-5. When you add O'Neal and watch him back down his defender, the defense may send a double, thus when O'Neal kicks it out, you will have an open shooter, or a drive and dump guy attacking the paint. O'Neal gives us a better balance of an inside outside game.

Problem with that is if you start O'Neal you're putting the breaks on the progression of two young bigs who have been playing quite well for us; play that has helped turn the team around some what. Also, where is the scoring going to come from once VC goes: Jefferson? He can't be asked to score any more than he is right now. Kidd? Next. Jermaine? Don't kid yourself.
Jason Kidd - Jermaine O'Neal pick n rolls that will work out great as well. Sean Williams has been playing great but not the way i think JO will work.
O'Neal will get 20 a night, given the looks Kidd will get him. It will be the 20 of the easiest points of his life. For the life of me, VC can't be a catch and shoot guy. He's dumped off so many Kidd setups to either create for another player or create another shot for himself, it isn't even funny. O'Neal will give us better balance than VC does.

IMO, he needs a change of scenery, I think he'll do much better playing here, and come on, besides a few bums, if you can finish, Kidd will make life easier for you as a big man.
I don’t thing JO would help us go over the top and legitimize our chances of getting to the finals, especially if we would trade one of our big 3 and some fillers for him. It’s not worth the trade.

I get what you're saying there (Even though the reference to PTI is quite funny). Who do you think we could get for Vince that could elevate our team, other than JO?

The 02-03 nets would re-unite pretty much.

So that has prolly a 5% chance of happening. And I agree with you, Pau Gasol would be very tough to get. How about Elton Brand, who was mentioned in another thread? Anyone think it's realistically possible to pick him up?

well, the nets at best are going to be a second round and out team. you cannot go far without a legit frotncourt and i dont see how this team can be the exception. it's not like we have great shooters either or slashers. this team needs a shakeup or just blow it up or it'll just be another average team thats gets the 16-18th pick in the draft.
First of all, I'm tired of all the talk about how the Nets are just a "second round team." Right now the Pistons and Celtics are playing the best ball in the league; losing to one of them is no insult. Second, while I agree that VC/Kidd are not an optimal match, I think you get the most bang for the buck by trying to add depth instead of a starter. I think that Kidd/Carter/RJ and a frontcourt rotation of Krstic/Williams/Boone could be pretty effective (I'd have Krstic coming off the bench, BTW). I'm not sure how much long-term potential Boone has, but he'll be fine in the role that is set out for him; as I've said since before he was drafted, he makes a better net than he is a player, if you get me. But after that, what does this team have? Marcus Williams, Darryl Armstrong, Antoine Wright, Boki Nachbar, Magloire, Malik Allen, Jason Collins. How many of these guys would even be active if they were on the Pistons? The Celtics? The Spurs? The Suns? The Rockets? The Lakers? Memphis? Minnesota? You get the idea. That's where the improvement has to be. I'd start by dealing Magloire and his expiring contract for a shooter. I'd choose between Nachbar and Antoine and do the same with one of them, depending on whether you prefer all defense-no offense or vice versa. I'd love to ditch Malik Allen, but he is paid so little that you're not going to get anyone good back; besides, if you are able to deal Magloire you probably have to keep him anyway. I'd deal Marcus if there was any market for him, but alas.
You know what I find funny? Sure Kidd and Carter aren't the BEST match for eachother like some claim Kidd and Jefferson are BUT Kidd and Carter have shown they can lead this team to the playoffs without RJ, yet Kidd and Jefferson haven't even shown the ability to win a game without Vince since he joined the Nets.

He relays everything on Vince Carter, he makes him play Point Guard when it isn't even necessary. Nets need a post player and Jermaine is that guy they need. Jefferson isn't used to being the 1st option but he will be like his stats from the 04-05 season.
