Being a cop is hard and risky work. It seems like it typically falls into two groups. Those who really want to serve and help people and those who for some reason felt powerless in their youth and see this as a way to finally gain that power. I have one of each of those in my remote family.

I have several good friends that are or have been police.
One that was my neighbor for years is where I got "there is a thin line between a cop and criminal" he was talking about the ego, excitement and power and that some don't mind crossing the line.
The one thing they all have in common (friends or guys I grew up with) they were all on power trips.
    Then I thought about referee's....lol

I have 2 cousins that are police. One is a Multnomah County Sheriff and the other is a police officer in La Grande, OR.

I don't think his reply was uncalm. Tagging someone in that context is akin to calling them out. Why not just say you were wrong and leave it at that?

I do love the fact that if a coach mouths off too bad I can "give him a seatbelt" and make him stop. But a good referee is as follows:

Be invisible. You blow your whistle at the obvious things that should most certainly be called.

    Never guess.

Never take baggage away from the game meaning:

    NEVER leave a game saying "I shouldn't have T'd him/her" or "I should've T'd him/her".

This takes experience and thick skin.

My statement wasn't enough to illicit that kind of response IMO but whatever.

Most people in most groups are good people.

Most only means 50% plus 1. So I think saying most is correct. Now if someone was saying high majority then that could certainly be incorrect.

You'd be a good cop. Not sure how many suspects you could physically run down, but I'd trust you to make the right decisions of when to blow the whistle.

I’m calm, I just said it’s tiring. The assumptions I’m this or that or have a certain opinion when really I never care whether dudes kneeled or not.
