New York City FC secure training facility in Manhattanville College
    [IMG]

Following the announcement of a temporary home in Yankee Stadium, New York City FC have reached another significant milestone: the acquisition of a training ground.

The club filed a petition with the Purchase Environmental Protection Agency (PEPA) this past February to renovate and use land on the Manhattanville College campus as the temporary home of their training grounds.

Those plans were approved Tuesday by the Harrison Planning Board by a 4-2 margin, giving NYC FC a concrete deal for five years, with two renewal options at one or two years.

“We are excited about the prospect of partnering with the community in Harrison … and Manhattanville College,” Chief Business Officer Tim Pernetti said in a statement prior to the vote. “From the beginning of this process, we have been solely focused on creating a relationship that is beneficial for the community, Manhattanville College and NYCFC.”

The $10 million plan will include renovation of the existing fields, the college gymnasium and the addition of another field where a tennis court currently stands. NYC FC will also seize control of 35 existing parking spots for their operations. Within their bid packet, the team specifies usage not only for training, but for possible academy activity and “occasional exhibition matches” as well.

New York City FC's Claudio Reyna, Tim Pernetti discuss
roster, jersey plans for 2014 and beyond

NYCFC director of soccer operations Claudio Reyna outlined during a Q&A with fans on Thursday evening at a pub in Manhattan the various strategies the club would be using to build its roster, additionally revealing that the team could expect its first signings sooner rather than later:

@CReynaNYCFC: "We hope to have some signings this summer. No shortage of interest in players wanting to play in this city."

Many of Reyna's other roster-related answers came as little surprise to those familiar with his team's affiliation with high-spending English outfit Manchester City FC. For example, there was head coach Jason Kreis' interest in several MCFC youngsters that NYCFC could potentially take on loan, and Reyna's assertion that the club would use all three available Designated Player spots as it looked to build a team:

.@CReynaNYCFC: "We are using our global scouting network to find people that play the way we want to play. We plan on using all 3 DP slots."

However, Reyna also assured fans that despite its global reach in building a roster, the team would not neglect its own community when searching for talent:

.@CReynaNYCFC: "We'd love to have American players in our team. It's important that we eventually have New York City players in our team."

    Report:
New York City FC's Jason Kreis scouts Manchester City's Godsway Donyoh in Sweden

Swedish outlet reported on Tuesday that Jason Kreis made a trip to the Scandinavian nation to watch talented young striker Godsway Donyoh in action on Sunday as the New York City FC coach evaluates potential signings for his new club's MLS debut next year.

Donyoh, a promising 19-year-old striker from Ghana, is on the books at NYCFC's sister club Manchester City, but is presently on loan at Falkenbergs FF, a club in Sweden's top flight, coached by former Sweden legend Henrik Larsson.

According to Fotbollskanalen.se, Kreis himself confirmed that the youngster was his reason for the visit, while Donyoh was quoted as being interested in a potential stint in MLS

New York City FC part owners Manchester City
capture English Premier League title on final day

New York City FC part-owners Manchester City have done it again in England. But this time it was a little less dramatic.

The Sky Blues captured a comfortable 2-0 home win over West Ham United to claim their second English Premier League title in three years. They also won the 2011-'12 championship in the final matchday of the campaign with a last-gasp goal from Sergio Aguero.

This time, Manchester City went into the final day with a two-point lead over Liverpool and maintained the advantage as goals by Samir Nasri and Vincent Kompany nullified any hopes of Liverpool snatching the title after the Reds' come-from-behind win over Newcastle.

Before suiting up for New York City FC,
David Villa will play for newly branded Melbourne City FC

City Football Group, which also owns New York City FC and Manchester City FC, purchased a majority ownership share in Melbourne City FC in January. Prior to the rebranding announcement, also on Wednesday, the club was previously known as Melbourne Heart FC, and finished in last place during the 2013-14 season.

The arrangement with Villa marks the first player movement between clubs in the ownership group. The release concerning the news does not indicate whether the move is officially a loan from NYCFC to Melbourne City, nor does it indicate a specific acquisition method for the striker, who is currently with the Spanish national team and will be going to the World Cup this month with La Roja.

RBNY Academy Update | January 5th - Six players called for National Team duty

    http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/news...ary-5th-six-players-called-national-team-duty
(January 5, 2014) – Three members of the New York Red Bulls academy took part in U.S. Soccer Youth National team camps in December, and three more earned a call to the first U.S. U-14 camp of 2015 as well. Under-18 defender Kyle Duncan represented the U.S. in two games against the German U-18 National team in Marbella, Spain, while Christopher Gloster and Jack Valderrabano joined the U.S. U-15 Boy’s National Team for a camp in Bradenton, Florida, before the holidays. Three members of the Red Bulls U-13s, Danny Jara, Kejiel Watt and Alex Rando, are currently training with the U.S. U-14 Boy’s National Team, also in Bradenton.

Duncan, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., was one of 20 players invited in the nine-day camp, which began on December 11. The defender started both of the U-18s’ games against Germany, going 78 minutes in the 2-1 win on December 17, and a full 90 in the 3-2 defeat two days later.

Duncan was the only player to start all 13 games in the Red Bulls U-18s’ Fall season. He contributed two goals and was part of a staunch defense as the team went 9-1-3 and topped the USDA Atlantic Division.

He is also one of 13 players on the Marbella camp roster that were part of the U-18 team that captured the championship at the Vaclav Jezek Invitational Tournament in the Czech Republic back in August.

Gloster, from Montclair, N.J., and Valderrabano, from New York City, were called in to the 36-player camp by U-15 National Team coach John Hackworth. The players met in Bradenton on December 13th and trained through the 20th. The week of training focused on intrasquad competition, and included a full practice with the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team. The current U-15s are candidates for the next class of the U.S. U-17 residency program, which is hosted at the facilities in Bradenton.
