I'm stunned at just how badly the Colts just don't "get it". They deserved to lose and they deserved to get booed off the field like they did. People fork down their ungodly amounts of money and cheer for a team not just because it's there, but to be part of something bigger. To experience it, or witness it, if not be a part of it. To cheer on excellence. Victory. Success. And history being made. Trotting out your second team and getting your ass handed to you, well that's just a shameful way to blow a chance at history. I don't care if they do win the Super Bowl. They suck.
I think they should have signed a better backup QB, but Addai needs to have his carries monitored. That's why Brown was getting all the work after the first quarter. 16-0 is worthless, though. All that matters is the ring, and if their 30+ year starters are dinged up ( Manning-Glute, Wayne-Foot, Freeney, Mathis, etc.), and getting burned out in the regular season, I don't know I want to risk all that. We have to leave these guys in the game all day if we want to win, against a desperate blitzing defense. And then you have to worry about the amount of energy they are overexerting. I like the way the Lakers handle it, get a little work in then chill. That's what Indy did today.
I'm still heated but I know I'm overreacting, but it has been a frustrating year and when a break seems to go your way, you get upset been another bad break occurs.
Your team is going to be great in future seasons, relax. You'll have plenty of chances to win it again.
I want to risk it! The risk is very small, and the chance at real and true greatness and football history was staring them in the face. They acted like a bunch of lame beancounters. And you know what, when you put out a fire, you better be careful about how easy it is to re-start. For all those meaningless folk theories about "we can't get guys hurt" or "we have to conserve our energy" there are plenty of opposites ones out there too. Maybe they get hurt because they play timid the next couple weeks. Maybe they no longer have as much to play for. Maybe they can't re-light the fire. Maybe they feel rightly ashamed for having taken such a lame punt on chasing history.
I'm calm in the terms of the game, but when you consider it as a piece of a larger system of the season of a whole, it annoys me.
And uh, I wouldn't blame the Colts for sitting their starters. I'd blame the dumbass fans who were actually booing, for being stupid enough to shell out money for a meaningless game.
If you want to rest your guys, get a 2 TD lead and rest them. If your guys can't get a 2 TD lead, then they don't deserve a rest.
Catch-22, I don't think the fans realize how dangerous each week of the NFL is. The risk is throwing out your arm because you're going to take 600+ attempts or taking one too many hits over the middle and going into a playoff game at 80-85% then losing a close one. You have to be ready for playoff level intensity, not go in with no Freeney or Mathis like a couple of years ago. We're an older team, you can't just be reckless either. You give them the reps, get them into a rhythm then chill out a little.
For as bad as Painter played, I can not blame them for booing, he was beyond bad, like, word can not describe his bad. They saw potential in seeing them win there last regular season game in a 14-0 season. I do not blame the fans for booing one bit.
And BTW, I feel sorry for Colts' fans when Manning starts going on the decline and is eventually done. Those years of rebuilding are going to be so damn frustrating.
We say that, but if an Aaron Rodgers type can fall to them, they should be okay. They need to figure out what to do with Sanders, dude is always hurt.
Oh yay, I get to watch my shitty hockey team play in an over hyped game on News Year day when I'll have a hangover
