Didn't like our run D one bit. I think there's two parts to that issue though: 1) Our D-line's pretty banged up. We're missing Chris Canty, we didn't have Justin Tuck for most of the game, and Fred Robbins/Barry Cofield are coming off surgery this offseason. Our defense thrives off of using different players and throwing different packages at opponents. We couldn't really do that last night, with our depth so depleted. I can't remember the last time an opposing O-line ever manhandled our D-line like that 2) Our linebackers simply aren't good enough. I consider them the weakest part of our defense. They missed too many tackles, often took the wrong angle in pursuit, and just weren't filling in the gaps. Most of the time, their running backs were being tackled by our corners and safeties, which gives you an idea of how poorly our LB's were playing. As for our running game, I'm not overly worried about it. Dallas came into this game determined to shut down the run and they threw out a lot of run blitzes in order to shut Jacobs/Bradshaw down. Washington did the same thing last week, and in both games Eli picked apart their secondary. I'll give it a 2-3 more weeks before teams realize that our no-name recievers can beat single coverage, and that they need to use a more balanced defensive approach.
Peyton is beasting, what a freak. 48 yard touchdown to the new guy Garcon. 27-23, just over 3 minutes to go. Ginn almost catches the long TD. Incomplete on the next play, fourth down. First down, clock it with 6 seconds left.
Ginn should have iced that game. It was the perfectly thrown hail mary pass, before the Colts were anticipating the hail mary pass. Peyton is impressive as hell. To sit on the bench for that long and come out and take so little time to put points on the board. I don't think I've ever seen a QB do more with fewer opportunities. Also he gets respect for his shout-out to Eli in the post-game interview.
This game was quite surreal, Indy had the ball less than one quarter. I agree pretty cool shout-out too. That family is monstrous.
Indy is going to have a hard time beating better teams than Miami with more explosive offenses if that is what they can expect out of their defense. Manning was incredible. That was the worst 2 minute drill I think I've seen in my life. I think Ryan Leaf could've lead a more competent drive.
I think they definitely proved that they're more than just the Wildcat formation, although that still is an important part of their offense. People went a bit overboard in calling them overrated after Week 1. That said, I do agree with Ron Jaworski when he said that their offense could use a big playmaker at the skill positions. The Wildcat is a good way to compensate for a lack of talent there, but eventually they'll need to lineup in a standard formation and have a player that can create plays all by himself.
I don't find Miami that impressive. Pennington + no big play receivers? Not going anywhere. That is an instant formula for a one and done team in the playoffs now a days.
