I like this idea, sorta, but Lopez will not be in NJ at seasons end

Probably not. Obviously, that plan all depends on teams staying relatively similar to how they are now. no Dwight trade. no big NJ trade, no Deron trade. Otherwise, you look at th ebig free agents, and they all seem to like taking their time. Maybe forcing the issue helps us? If not, what do you lose? 3 days of time.

I REALLY don't see Brook Lopez as a max contract guy. Yeah, he's a big who can score, so somebody will overpay him, I just hope it's not us. The guy is a horrible rebounder. He averaged 6.0 RPG last season in 35.2 MPG with a TRB% of 10.0. That's Bargnani-like historically bad rebounding for a 7-footer. People around here are constantly bitching about Aldridge's rebounding, but next to Brook Lopez, he will look like Dennis Rodman.

I'd much rather go after Hibbert personally ... beyond that there are some really nice big-men prospects in this year's draft (who will probably be gone by the time we select).

The upcoming draft is certainly top heavy in big men. That's a rarity. Maybe we should look to move up rather than maxing out a slightly better than average (on the whole) big man like Brrok Lopez.

Since I can't seem to explain it properly here's Hollinger's take if that helps you:

    So Hollinger does two things.

First he lists not quite all star wings and fails to mention that Gallo has only played at that level for a short period of time.

Then he mentions lesser wings and lists some of their salaries. While he does mention that that some of the guys received shockingly high contracts he fails to mention that we are now under a new CBA.

Failure to keep a lid on non all star salaries will hamper teams.

I dont think Hollinger piece was that helpful or insightful. Hey look at all these overpaid dudes from the old cba.

I agree with this. Only new York or Los Angeles will actually afford to pay the very big luxury tax penalties. I don't think many teams will really feel the bite until that kicks in. And I guess many owners will be kicking their gms for not planning for the future.

And the teams like the Blazers will suffer when their talent goes away.

Bye bye Batum if we don't give him Gallo status.

Talk to the other 29 teams? I hope he signs a max deal with the Heat or Lakers. As they can only offer 3 years at a total of $9 million... Yeah I think we're happily matching that.

Hopefully someone gives him gallo money. Then we can wave goodbye and laugh at the team paying him that

And this comment is based on what exactly?

Batum will be a restricted free agent, so sure, his agent can say they will talk to the other 29 teams. He is pissed he didn't get the deal he promised Batum he would deliver. The agent now looks like a chump. The agent has to wait another year to find out what his greedy little cut of the contract is going to be. Another year of waiting to order his new Ferrari. Too fucking bad for him.

As you can tell I despise slimy agents who blow smoke, bluster and bluff and bullshit, and talk shit and act all tough.

BATUMSHAKALAKA! Batum is a beast. If only he played like that all the time for the Blazers.

We don't and somebody will, a team with a coach that knows how to use him, possibility a point guard too, then we'll be crying like we chose Oden over Durant when he blows up.

On that we agree. I'm not saying Batum is worth Gallo money per-say, just that the agents are simply looking out for their own interest at the demise of the NBA. The system is not broke, it's fixed.

It's a good comparison because both guys are relatively close in their talent levels and age. But getting a decent starter like Wesley for a full MLE contract is a good deal for the team. Because Nic's a size larger and quality size is a limited commodity, my guess at whats fair is about 7-8M per year... 4 years & 30M sounds about right
