The significance is how much upside and development a team has...and for that, it seems to make sense to only look at the players the team actually uses as part of the team. LaFrentz may as well be a coach or fan, since he doesn't play. If the team dropped Shavlik Randolph and picked up Kevin Willis for the rest of the season just to be a non-playing mentor to Oden, I wouldn't say that that makes the team older in any real way, even if the records reflected an increase in "average age."
