It's the false sense of support I hate. Its like the people who don't give two shits about something until the holiday/special day comes along and then all the sudden they blindly support said cause...until the next day when they don't give two shits again. That's how I've felt about the National Anthem/supporting the troops at pro games. I remember going to football game once where right before the NA, two guys were yelling at each other, cussing and calling each other all sorts of names (and apparently one of the guys girlfriends), and then when the NA was played, nothing..but the second it ended, they were back to being drunken idiots.
What the heck would Doncic and Porzingas know about "the rockets red glare" ... they're probably thinking Boogie was irked at a foul call.
I believe it... I meant to say, how often do you here the anthem outside of a sporting even in the United States. Seems fairly rare.
You mean literally INTERNATIONAL CONTESTS? I mean, I don't even want them there (because they're mostly crap and boring with very dubious histories - certainly God Save the Queen) but at least that makes sense!
What's next? Are we going to start questioning cheerleaders next? I mean, the practice of systematically demeaning the only women that feature in this whole event by dressing them in skimpy outfits and paying them fuck all? Are we going to start asking questions about THAT, TOO? Is no Sacred American Tradition safe?
this is complete bullshit. i also cant believe all of the people on here that don't like the national anthem/America. as long as i can remember, the national anthem has been played before every sporting event. this is just cuban being "woke". you take the national anthem out, you should remove all politics from sports.
Cept that is totally unAmerican. It's not a requirement to be political that you must play the national anthem. That's an asinine position.
how is that an asinine position? people look to sports to escape the normalcy of life. people hear politics a lot during the day and when they watch sports, they don't want to hear more. this "no anthem" bullshit is completely politically driven. playing the anthem before a sporting event is a tradition. hell, even before bowling tournaments, the anthem is played.
Because there isn't a requirement you have to meet to be political, because there isn't one single way that you can be patriotic or political, because it's a fake manufactured "patriotism". Also, if people look to sports to escape "normalcy" of life, wouldn't *not* having the NA be kind of a way to escape things? I go to games to watch the team play, not to hear the national anthem. The Anthem being played at the start of sporting events is totally political based.
jesus christ... do you hate America, or what? people never thought about it before 5 years ago. everyone loved the National Anthem before sporting events. they never thought anything of it politically. still escaping the normalcy of life. I go to games to watch the team play as well and not hear some dude who didn't even go to college, tell me about politics when they have ZERO clue how politics work. they just pander and indoctrinate the younger generation to make them think the USA is this horrible place. but hey, at least they have their millions. the NA is a bonus to me to hear when i go to sporting events.
I think it's safe to assume this is green font. Everyone loved it? That's a stretch. Ah, I see the codes.
Leaving aside whether everyone liked it because you liked it, can you explain why the national anthem should be played before sporting events and not before concerts or movies? (And if you think it should be played before those too, then can you explain why entertainment should be linked to the national anthem?) And don't say "tradition" because whenever it started, it wasn't tradition. Give me an actual reason.
here. a little history lesson for you. and yes, it is tradition. whether you want to believe it or not. https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/22150/why-do-we-sing-national-anthem-sporting-events google is your friend.
I don't see any reason why sports should be about the only public gathering in a private venue to force the national anthem on everybody attending or watching Most of the time anymore telecasts will use the anthem time for commercials, and people in attendance use if for bathroom breaks. Profits and expediency over shallow patriotism.
What I don't get, what I never got, was why we feel it needs to be played or why I was required to recite a pledge of allegiance in first grade. What was the point? Most kids had no idea what it was about. It wasn't a binding contract. Seemed like something that was more apropos of the kind of Eastern European dictatorships my family came here to escape, China, or North Korea. Just weird to indoctrinate children in a free country like that. The anthem's little different. I've never been watching a game with friends where anyone stood at attention if the anthem was part of the broadcast, and some of us are from families with military ties. It just seems weird and out of place. If people are proud of the country, they are going to be proud no matter what day or occasion it is. I never found a person or organization that was certain and genuine about its character that felt the need to tell people it was certain and genuine about its character.
