You're having an issue with the juxtaposition angle? ;)

Nonetheless, don't you think it's a a bit hard to have real feeling when singing The Star Spangled Banner? It's a hard song to sing as it is. Anyway, I Will Always Love You was sung with a tad bit of emotion, wouldn't you think? "De-soulification" of R & B? Hmmm...

I think teams should just start playing really stupid versions of the National Anthem to abide by the letter of the rules. All-kazoo versions. Alvin & The Chipmunk versions. A version sung by Beaker of the Muppets. That sort of thing.

I'm fine with the National Anthem being played before games because it gives an opportunity for arts and sports to be recognized together. I have one brother that was a starting all-conference quarterback and one that was a state recognized tenor. Props to them both!

Always thought the Marvin Gaye version at the NBA AllStar game right before he died was amazing! Maybe '83.

I don;'t mind hearing the National Anthem whenever it's played. If they want to play it at sporting events, I'll support that. As long as I live it will give me goose bumps. If they want to discontinue playing it, I'll regret it but will live with it.

I keep reading these posts that act like this is about the national anthem. Let's get past the fact that no one really cares whether it's played or not (except for maybe a handful). This became an issue when people started demonstrating DURING it.

They weren't demonstrating that the song should be played or the flag flown. The demonstrated to make a statement that the country didn't care about nor was it addressing the needs of many of its own people that the flag and song are supposed to represent.

People post about Cuban reversing course. He did, but in his statement he said the very thing I just said above.

Yet, here we are again, pretending like this is about love of country, or respect for veterans, or for appreciation for a poem set to an old English drinking song, when we all know this stems from the ill-treatment by this country of a significant part of this country, and of this country not living up to the ideals for which the song and flag are supposed to stand. SMH.

    Abolish sports.

Convert sports bars to national anthem bars, where patriots can go to drink and listen to the national anthem.

Thanks for confirming your lack of historical knowledge of how and why competitive sports, and especially team sports, were initially conceived, and who organized and supported them for the last several thousand years.

Here's a hint: Military training.

He has a point, the NBA Finals in 32 BC was a mess. It wasn't until 31 BC that they got their shit together and started playing the national anthem.

Nope. That's nonsense. That's been the case in some situations, but there's no evidence that that's "why sports was initially conceived" (that's completely unknown, as we only have evidence for the existence of the earliest sports we know of, not the reasoning for their creation) nor is the military "who supported them for the past several thousand years" (unless you think the ancient Greeks and Romans are the only people who participated in sports in world history).

And even if that were true, which it isn't, that has no bearing on professional sports today in the US, which is not about military training nor is it supported by, or organized by, the military.

Feel free to try again. Maybe enlighten us as to what Q thinks about sports.

It's great when people present as proof reasoning that's both wrong and irrelevant.

Save that shit for your mom. I served in the military and this has nothing to do with honoring soldiers. I served so people COULD make their own decisions and choices........and rack up the confirmed kills (9 by the way), pay for college and get me a home loan, but that's not the point.

My great grandpa was in WW2 and my grandpa in Korea and they would say the exact same thing. Go away!

I'm gonna call ABSOLUTE AND COMPLETE UTTER BULLSHIT!
It's you that confirmed you have no historical knowledge. Sports and competition were created in the original Greek Olypiads. They had absolutely nothing to do with Military and or Nationalism. Everything to do with slavery and betting.
Please get a clue. Military my ass.

Did you get those kills by yourself, or with a group? Was this in combat, or did you catch them during their routine activities?

Night ops and general patrols. Caught guys slipping when they shouldn't have. First thing they teach is to "keep your head on a swivel". They tell you that for a reason FAMS!
