Noel would add like $15M to our cap next year and for several years after that. The only way to afford that is if they took Crabbe. They probably didn't want the cap hit. He's also not a perfect fit, since we really need a PF.

There's a reason a weak team like Dallas has soured on him....

There was a reason a weak team like Orlando soured on Harkless, but we seem to love him here.

Noel, a restricted free agent this summer, has long been a player of intrigue for the Mavericks, who’ll work to sign him to a long-term extension. Dallas also will have the ability to match any offer sheet and retain Noel.

Philadelphia is working to find another team to acquire Bogut, but if a deal isn’t reached, the team is expected to negotiate a contract buyout with Bogut so he can become an unrestricted free agent, league sources said.

Noel averaged 8.9 points and five rebounds in 29 games this season for the 76ers.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Bogut back to Golden State (after a buyout) would be amusing. I doubt there's any animosity there on Bogut's end--Golden State apparently found a few teams they could trade him to and then let him pick the team he wanted to go to, so it's not like they did him dirty.

This would not surprise me. I expected them to go into tank mode after the break. Only 27 games left. makes sense to dump your often injured vets.

Lets see if Cuban can now be patient with his two young players he's about to have locked up for big $.
He wasn't patient with Nash/Dirk and regretted it later. His history shows he won't be patient with Barnes/Noel.

Mavericks got a better end of the deal but 76ers had no choice if they did not feel like paying Noel $25M in the Summer. Still he has not turned into much, Mavericks pick next year will be late lottery probably.

be interesting to see if Noel could be more effective for Mavs this season and they win more games, if they move ahead of us in the standings I am good with that

PHI needs 3-point shooting from their wings to help space the floor for their bigs. So, they went out and got a guy who is a career .288 three point shooter. Yeah, that makes sense.

With Harrison Barnes playing the 4, the starting SF position in DAL was Anderson's for the taking. He couldn't cut it, so DAL has been forced to play Wesley Matthews out of position at the 3.

He wasn't good enough to get significant PT on a crap team in DAL, but PHI thinks he will help them? PHI just took a step backwards. They were a better team with Noel backing up Embiid, and occasionally playing beside him, than they will be with Justin Anderson backing up Ben Simmons. The pick they got will be in a much weaker draft. So, that won't amount to much.

I think this trade is actually smart for both teams. DAL will now pay Noel max or very close to it. PHI wasn't ready to make that commitment to him (and I don't blame them even though I like the player) so they could have lost him for nothing soon.

Wake me when Philly is relevant. They've clearly established themselves as the clowns of the NBA. I take everything they do with a grain of salt as they literally remain the doormat of the NBA for years.

Yeah what gets overlooked is that Noel would have had to be re-signed next Summer. If Philly were not planning to do that, his value was going to be low. You could say that they would be able to trade him next year with long contract but would they really be able to if this was a max deal, and it likely would? Not many teams would trade pieces for Noel tied to a $100M contract.

If PHI would have kept him, they would have probably passed us in the standings. So, that's kind of a wash.
