Okay, so I get why Neil didn't want Noel, because it puts us in the exact same situation with Plumlee, but FUCK. Noel was traded for TWO SECONDS. Fuck this shit.
Noel is so much better than Plumlee though. At least he's a very good defender. Plumlee was a very good passer for a big, but that's not really that important in the grand scheme of things.
The problem with PHI is they seem intent on dumping their young talent before it comes off its cheap rookie contract. Noel was a high lottery pick - gone. Okafor was a high lottery pick and he's available for a late first round pick. Those guys may never become superstars, but both are still ridiculously young and have a lot of upside. Not every player you take in the lottery is going to become a superstar, but you still need great role players. Noel as a 20-year old rookie was already an elite defender. Okafor may not fit as a starter, but he would be a great instant offense off the bench 6th man. They draft these guys high in the lottery and 2 - 3 years later, they "cash them in" for lower picks. Will they ever actually try to win? BNM
It doesn't matter anymore. Kudos for him on that trade, but he could have done so much more. This right here is drafting DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin without trading for Chris Paul. He needs to start finishing what he started in the summer.
Yes, which is why I'm PISSED we didn't get him. Both Noel and Plumlee would have fielded max offers in free agency. On the other hand, if you want to look at it another way, Neil was able to trade Plumlee for a similar player on a better contract + first rounder.....
They fired the guy responsible for drafting those players. I can 100% say with certainty that if Hinkie was still GM, there is no chance Noel would have been traded for two second rounders.
I didn't say they were playing together. They were both playing and they were winning. They won almost as many games during that 12 game stretch as they did the entire previous season. Yes, Noel was backing up Embiid, but with Embiid's injury history, there would have always been games where Noel would start when Embiid was out, at they actually CAN play together, at least for 10 - 12 minutes a game. They gave away a very young, elite defender for what will end up being a late lottery pick in a weak draft. BNM
And when Colangelo was hired, the first thing he said is it's time to start winning. Guess he changed his mind... BNM
Exactly, great fucking return for Plumlee. Fucking excellent. Everyone even said so at the time. But Noel should have been Neil's bargain hunting paradise....
Why not both? Nurk getting 17.9 MPG in DEN. Noel getting 19.4 MPG in PHI. Both racking up multiple DNP-Cds. Both could have easily gotten much more PT here than at their previous teams, even without playing together. And they definitely could have played together for several minutes a game. Could have offered Crabbe + pick for Noel. Would have given PHI a wing that can actually shoot and dumping Crabbe's contract would have given us the room to re-sign Noel while staying under the luxury tax threshold. BNM
Also the 2013 and 2014 drafts were not really that good. Sure a few players drafted late turned out to be good, but overall they sucked. Which is the problem with tanking......you never know how good the draft is because the players now are so young and unproven.
Why? I thought we were tanking the last 26 games. Would he resign? How much would we have to over pay to keep him?
