or, for example, what if Powell re-signs for 22M/year and Trent re-signs for 11M/year?

and again, I want to know what TPA is

Maybe I'm reading you wrong but if you're saying that if we let Norm walk that we still won that trade, I think you're about as wrong as someone can be. Gary has value and we had control over that value. We could have gotten a piece, like Gary was, that would have given us long term value maybe not close to as good as Norm but what did Norm do for us? Our winning percentage was lower and we lost in the first round,

So if Norm walks for nothing, we lost that trade.

Correct me if I’m wrong but can’t teams negotiate with their own free agents right now and it’s not tampering?

there are, what, 30 teams in the league? 513th ranked player divided by 30 teams is 17.1 players per team. So I call this a stupid tweet.

    not.

    swayed.

He is unrestricted and will be a Bird exception. Thought we aren't allowed to officially communicate with him. But it's naiive to assume that we haven't already.

Yes not officially, but I’m pretty sure we can talk to him now. Technically we can’t negotiate with other teams free agents.

But either way, everyone knows free agency has already begun.

My suspicion is the lack of chatter regarding Norm for any teams is because he’s already off the market.

Count me as maybe the only one that doesn’t necessarily care if Powell leaves. I know it would mean losing Trent for “nothing” but it would’ve been the same problem with him, and paying 15m+ for a bench player isn’t dope, been there done that.

I want length at the three. So unless we’re trading CJ were gonna have the same issues. I’m kinda tired of getting worked on the boards as well, and that’s one of the keys to a good defense.

Also I’m pretty sure the team would have the full MLE to use if he did leave. That puts you in the mix for a lot better players than the tax MLE.

So ideally we would trade CJ and keep Powell. But one of them has to go imo.

Regardless of fit or anything else we would want to re-sign Norm because he will have far more trade value than the 4M difference between the taxpayer and full MLE. Hopefully we wouldn't be trading Norm and would be trading CJ. The fact is that Dame gave the team a mandate to improve and if Norm walks we will definitely be moving backwards.

GTJ played in Portland for most of three seasons and came to Toronto and was still the youngest player on the team. Toronto is going to give him a three year extension (something like $51MM) in hopes that he's going to improve a lot in their system and become a top-flight sixth man or possibly a long term starting shooting guard. Toronto's "type" right now is tall, plays hard defence, and can move the ball. GTJ is tall enough, it's the other two areas where he stands to improve. He's a streaky scorer like Powell was. They need like 16-18ppg from him this year whether he starts or not. I don't think they would've traded for him if they didn't think he could get there.

If we let Powell go for nothing just trade Dame. Seriously. That would be a big blow to the talent on our team.

We offered Trent a $52 mill extension last year and he turned it down.

To be fair, our $52 million dollar extension was for four years ($13 mil per year) vs. what speeds is suggesting ($17 mil per year).

Remember what Olshey did last time a big free agent (Aldridge) left? The term "bloodbath" springs to mind.
