At various times I have heard evangelical Christians say the bible, by which they mean the Christian bible, is every word true, even when it contradicts itself. And cite the bible as "proof". They can never comprehend the logical fallacy of saying the bible is true because the bible says so. Logic is not a strong point of true believers.

And now often very same people say Trump is always right, even when he contradicts himself, because Trump says so.

Most religions believe they are right or righteous. One of my beefs with religion in general, is its a way justify anything perceived as wrong.

It's one thing to believe your religion is righteous. Quite another to say only your religion is righteous. And that everyone must live by your religion or be killed.

This is the problem, people can't even agree on facts. The information that is being consumed by both sides is different and tailored for specific audiences, this means there literally cannot be a discussion as both sides don't even agree on the facts of an event. It's entirely unbelievable, but this is the world we live in these days. Unfortunately this is exactly what Putin in particular wants and it is hastening our decline as a super power in the world, we're too busy arguing with each other while Xi Jin Ping and Putin move on with their larger agenda. I am not quite old enough to remember Regan's presidency as I was born in '84, but the cold war warriors must be rolling in their graves seeing the US get outmaneuvered like this by our old foe. Hopefully as China in particular continues to grow in power we'll find a common enemy again and stop arguing and attacking each other and focus on what's the larger more important danger, and which will allow us to begin to focus on our commonalities more than our perceived differences.

China is our most dangerous enemy, always has been.
Russia is a competitive ally of ours, always has been.

Ah yes, I remember our great Russian ally and how we got along so swimmingly between 1945 and 1989 in particular. Can you provide evidence that Russia is our current ally? Vladimir Putin is no friend, and has no intention of being friends with the US. Putting aside ones political allegiances, to not see Russia as an inherently dangerous rival is a serious danger to our national security. If you don't see this because the wool has been pulled over your eyes, then Putin has had even more success than even I had realized.

Our American congress is our greatest enemy. They are currently helping China to become wealthier by allowing our billionaires to move American manufacturing jobs to China, to turn around and sell cheap crap back to Americans.

It is a great con job. But a hell of a boon to China.

It's easy to understand why you would come to that conclusion, but the reality is this is a problem that has been long in the making and has complicated and difficult ramifications for any path forward. Nixon actually had a long term strategy and approach to China that had a pretty convincing argument at the time, they honestly believed that opening the country up would create more internal pressures on their political system to begin democratizing. Obviously that didn't happen, and it's been pretty clear for generations now that this theory and approach to China didn't and wasn't working anymore. We have needed a new approach to China for at least 10 years, but we've lost focus on what is important and have gotten bogged down in pointless wars in the middle east for far too long.

The problem is there are a lot of folks who believe that any market intervention is anathema to capitalism even if it is obvious there are long term consequences to doing nothing. Capitalism really only works when the playing field is even and everyone is working with the same set of rules and expectations. The obvious problem to everyone is that in the last 30 years China has not been working in good faith to abide by those common rules, and manipulates its currency, and its economy to take full advantage of America and American businesses for their own interests.

We need a new strategy and a competent foreign policy that has a long term vision for how to compete with and mitigate Chinese influence well into the future, China has plans going out to at least 2050 - what is ours? One of the few things I agreed with Trump on was that China was the major threat on a geo political level, and that we need to confront them, and now. The longer we wait, the stronger they get, and the harder it is going to be to leverage what we can to exert any influence over them and to get them to agree to real long term concessions such as copyright and trademark protections. So far I am not impressed with Biden's approach to China, but in his defense he does have a lot on his plate right now.

The Bible is a book...or a collection of books. Written by men. It's not wrong or right. It's mostly a lot of parables. There are some good messages. There are some cool stories. It's not all historically verifiable. But, there is a lot to take from it.

I too find it interesting that Christians treat it like it was all written By God himself. It's a history written by men who are fallible.

I find it interesting too that Trump is treated much the same way. Everything he says and does is true even if evidence proves otherwise.

Because they knew idiots and morons would repeat anything they were told to repeat. "stop the steal" "lock her up" "covid is from a lab", "MAGA", and any of the other stupid sayings about Agent Orange still being president of the President, etc.

They're sheep, and not the brightest bunch, that's for sure.

Pretty much, the only ones bringing up Trump these days is all y'all. Biden is the new leader of the free world and I'm down with that. Really down.

He's midterm republican voter fodder in the news right now.....even though he's disgraced ...he's always been disgraced, he's used to it. Apparently the GOP representatives lack any semblance of short term memory...accountability is the solution to a divided country. Fixing the country is going to take longer than a presidential term. The country needs a team win, not isolation hero ball.

    Understood.

    https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/556122-how-trump-could-impact-the-gops-2022-prospects

The outcome of the midterms will be based in larger part on President Joe Biden’s job approval rating at the time and voters’ perceived success of his agenda, and less so on Trump’s enduring influence over the GOP.

He's like an infected hemorrhoid... Once you get it to stop making life miserable it still takes a while to forget how terrible it was.

However, it's so distasteful that it's not something to discuss with polite company.

I'm saying if he had all that much political foresight, he would have worked for a different campaign.

Not sure anyone knows now what will happen in 2022/2024.

All those jerks that still post their Trump flags on their pick up trucks and on their house abide by the creed "fuck your feelings". I see this everyday. NJ was heavily democratic but citizens in a few counties like Ocean, Burlington and Cape May treat him like Mr.T. Store owners still sell Trump t shirts on the boardwalks and decals on trucks display callous regard to the current president. His legion thrives because he wants to be a dictator and they want to be subjected to someone other than a politician. .
