I think Yes. PG, as much as it's a concern, having a nice SF/PF combo in Hedo would be perfect right now. You could bring Hedo in to start at SF, then move to PF to replace Aldridge. I know it's "small ball" but having a player like Hedo that is known for sticking a dagger in you from three, will keep the defenders more honest on our post scorers.
I don't think Hedo would have helped us. We needed a PG upgrade and got one. The sad part is, Miller's defense is really bad. Defense is what we need and Bayless would be better at it. Bayless is also a better shooter. What Miller is good at, pushing the ball, catching the defense off-guard, and rewarding players for getting behind their defenders, Nate apparently doesn't want him to do. What a waste.
Hedo is a bigger mismatch for most SF defenders than Miller is for most point-guards. Miller is a better player, individually than Hedo - but because it is so unusual to have such a tall guy that can handle, attack the rim from the dribble, run the pick and roll and shoot from the 3 - he is just a bigger thing to adjust to for opposing defenses. I still think that we were lucky, long-term, that Toronto picked him up - because 3 years from now we would be hurting with him on the team - but, I still think that for the next couple of years - he would have been a better fit on this team. The fact of the matter is that Miller, so far, has not done too much to help us get the ball in the post - while Hedo was very successful doing it from the side of the court at Orlando - something we have not seen the Blazers do, at all. I am not surprised the Blazers went after him first, but I am not ready to wash my hands off the Miller experiment. I still think that sooner or later they will figure it out and the team will start clicking.
