As I have often said, Simons is a great pure shooter, but not a great dribbler, like Lillard, McCollum, and Carmelo for his height. Simons is an average dribbler for a guard. Driving = dribbling.
Kanter v Collins is a false equivalence. One is a flawed player who can contribute under the right circumstances while the other is just a lump on the bench. If Olshey went into the season expecting Collins to make a major contribution, it just proves he isn't that good at his job. Even KP eventually figured out that Oden needed to be kicked to the curb!
Of course, Oden (on paper) had far more potential than Collins. You could make a case that Oden's best case scenario was so good that it justified the time and patience invested in him.
You can also make the case that he not only had microfracture surgery on his knee but then followed it up by having it on his other knee and then broke his patella in the following season. So yeah trying to make any correlation between Greg Oden and Zach Collins is a pretty big stretch. Also it has never been assumed Zach's career is over by any means.
