Yeah, they do a pretty solid steak, good sides and are famous for their butter cake. Just go on a weekday, Tuesday-Thursday for the biggest "scene" (weekends again are more of an "urban try-hard" crowd). Weekdays are more biz/industry people.

Mastro's is kinda overrated. I mean, the food is good..... but what steak isn't good when they put a stick of butter on it before it gets out to your table?

As El-P calls it, it is definitely a "scene".

Ruth's Chris is the butter on the steak. Maybe Mastro's does as well. But ruth's chris is pretty obvious and kind of famous for it.

The steak was pretty solid, didn't blow me away but good for LA. Sometimes you get some rappers up in there, lot of rich urbanites like to get bougie. Lobster Mashed is pretty good and got the seafood tower there before too which is dope but pricy as fuck (you pay per piece of seafood like per shrimp and shit but I went there with a bunch of jewish peeps and they didn't eat the crusteceans)

I liked mastros over the other steakhouses in the same genre (Cut, Wolfgang's, Flemings, Mortons, Ruth's Chris, STK, etc). LA isn't really known for steaks, the Korean BBQ is much better IMO. I did enjoy Taylor's in K-town which is like 1/2 the price for the same meat as the beverly hills joints.

Mastro's does the butter, too. Been there many of times. Don't get me wrong, the food is solid, it just doesn't blow me away, especially for the price. There are lesser-known places that make a better steak.

Ended up at Gibsons. Not the OG one, but the one by the airport, it was like -15 windchill. fucking crazy. It was ok, didn't get a steak since it was lunch and I didn't go to the OG one.
Weak french onion soup, no depth to the base.
Filet Mignon Sliders were ok but the ribeye steak sandwhich was pretty good. Had one of their huge desserts, turtle pie, it was ok, just a few bites but too sweet.

My cousins said next time we're going to Primehouse, just my schedule was too fucked to make it happen.

Start with samples..reds first...try Cabernet Savignons, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, and Merlots to start..get some cheese or apples to clear the palette between tastes. Wines from California, Oregon, Argentina, Chile, Australia, South Africa and Eastern Europe...and of course France are good choices to pick from. Best thing is to go to wine tasting one night a week or so and get an idea of what good wine is. A lot of chics like white wines, Chardonays in particular...BIGGEST TIP...it must have a cork! Then you could always just date a French girl

Way back in the 70s my roommate made wine in the Sierras in N Cali...every Wed night we'd have wine and invite a bunch of friends to bring different bottles of whatever we were tasting..was fun..learned a whole lot about wine. I love scotch, Irish whiskey and brandy myself
