    you're correct of course

I just kind of missed you saying "including Ant" in a package instead of Ant's generic trade value. Coffee hadn't kicked in yet

No worries, I may have edited it immediately after posting to include that.

I need to do a better job of making edits clear when I'm posting from my phone.

    So my thought is this:
We include the #7 pick to Miami in this trade to offset and they can draft another player that is more in line with Simons and Bam's ageline as well as Markelle Fultz. Not sure Orlando likes the deal, but maybe give them our 2025 pick to compensate? Would that be enough? They suck and have crap management, so lets see if Cronin can earn his pay and make them sway.

Bam is younger & Dame is Older. So the Simons/Bam age works like the Dame/Butler age works out very well.

    Simons will love Miami.

    We would look like this:

Dame/??(Our second round draft? Could we trade our #7 down to 9 & 20 and give #9 to Miami? would that be enough and use #20 on a backup PG?)
    Hart/Tucker/Johnson
    Butler/Nas
    Winslow/Watford
    Nurk/R.Lopez

Use our TPE to go after a PF?

I would be pretty happy overall if we went into next season with something like that. I think that's some serious defense and enough offensive options to put around Dame. Bench could use some help, but we could see how it goes and tweak at next year's deadline?

I don't see Miami blowing it up, but....Butler has always been someone I've wanted with Dame. I think they would be magic together. Wish we grabbed him when he was tossed around the league. Was always the high risk star available that made the most sense (more likely to be attainable than PG).

I'm not sure I consider that a blowing it up? I think if it as a bit more of a retooling? Hoping they think they peaked with Butler last and this year? Lowry/Simons/Odebayo/Morris/Fultz/Herro, is a solid young squad I think would bed in the playoffs next year and just continue to grow and if they draft right with the pick we give them?

That's a solid young core in my opinion with Lowry as their captain. They would need to do a consolidation trade for their extra guards to get another PF, I think, But with that and their pick we give them? I think that's a solid future without having to hit bottom with a full rebuild.

Has he grown that much since the season? Are we trading him to Indy for their oldest over the hill vet? Ant needs a team...I love Ant as a 6 man for a reasonable deal though...you aren't shying on a Jimmy Butler for Ant deal anytime soon though. That's a needle mover.

What if it's a really really old quarter?

I would be inconsolable. Out goes all the assets, in comes a 33, 38 & 35 year old . If they meshed immediately (hardly a given) & were really lucky with health, Portland might be a contender for a year maybe two. But regardless, after that short window there would be many years of absolute sucking as the roster turned over.

Mortgaging the future for a ring is something I have heard many willing to do.
Plus we still have Nas to build around! (Joke)

But the question was how to bring in a legit star. That isn't happening without giving something significant up.
We screwed the pooch not moving cj for him a few years back, as others have eluded.

What route would you take to pair Dame with a legit all star?

I'm not overly concerned about building a contender around Dame as I think that ship sailed when they chose to stand by Neil. I'm for acquiring the BPA via the draft and staying open to developing possibilities. If someone wants to offer a boatload for Ant midseason that rounds the team into contention, I'll be surprised but open. We shall see what they're able to accomplish around the edges (Grant for Bledsoe + Mil 2025 #1?) this offseason, but I very much doubt they're able to assemble a cast able to compete & expect them to be fielding offers for Dame at the deadline. He's been awesome, but I'm rooting for the Portland Trailblazers over any player and I don't see his timeline lining up with the state of the team. They are not close.

That is a fair take. Im not in the trade Dame camp yet, but I see it coming with the current fork in the road.
I’m just proposing this based on the say that Dame isn't going anywhere. So I if we are to try to win with him here, I see the proposal as one of a few semi-realistic options.
I’m operating on the premise that Dame is retiring here. If not, I would totally go another direction. Keep Ant for one.

if it's an old quarter, it's a silver quarter, and that's worth 5 dollars
