I've had it from.running many times. If he wanted to play he could. He could wait until the offseason to let it heal. Players play and take rest days from PF all the time.

Nothing feels better than rubbing a cold 12oz soda can back and forth on your affected foot.

Big bulky skate shoes are amazing for it. Wear those when you are really in pain to walk around the house and you can't even feel the pain.

Haha, you mean stay safe here in Spokane? I would either be dead or in a Russian prison if I had stayed in Crimea. We left on the last train out of Crimea on the night before the phony referendum. My lawyer emailed me a couple days later and said the police were looking for me for "questioning".

Do you think he has Lithuania, Latvia & Estonia as his next move?

Not right now. But I am not a good prophet. I never thought he would invade. Over the long run he is destroying Russia. I believe he is insane so anything is possible. Our only hope is that some sensible and powerful people in Russia will take him out; but he has consolidated control so much don't think is possible. Cronin saw the Blazers go into Memphis and beat the team with the 3rd best record in the NBA that had won six straight.
He looked at the relatively weak schedule for the Trail Blazers and did the math.
His big plans for the off-season could evaporate if the Blazers made it into the playoffs and New Orleans won in the lottery. Even if it was unlikely, this worst-case scenario was probably giving him nightmares.

Honestly, I'm not sure why some people are so convinced the Blazers would be that anxious to tank into a late lotto pick in what many observers seem to think is a shallow draft.

So shouldn't it be Day to Day and not "out for a month" out of nowhere?

Some only see the top 4-5 as having "star potential". Many other observers see a draft littered with NBA talent throughout the top-15.

Also, a late lotto pick is where the Blazers already are, without any tanking efforts (presently tied with New York for the 9th-worst record). Solid tanking could easily get them to 6, with a decent chance at a top-4 pick in this "shallow draft".

The way i see it right now nothing after the first or maybe second pick is going to help this team win games for at least 3 years. If they get the tall skinny "Chet" dude from Gonzaga he's still 2 years from really contributing. Seriously this draft is for building in 2-3 years which I'm cool with if that happens that way. If the Blazers keep their draft pick and get the Pels pick as well they need to go after the best player available and build as best they can.
But as far as "tanking"? I just don't see that as a viable option and i certainly hope the players and coaches don't either.

If he's been harassed by it since Sept and its now so flared up he can hardly walk on it (believe me it can get that way) a long period of rest is about the only way to get in front of it again.

Nagging injuries like this happen quite often. I expect you will see players shut down at the smallest hint of an injury going forward.

OK, but given the team's history with injury issues isn't it also possible that they have other reasons to be cautious with Dame and Nurk? If players are seen as building blocks for the future, how much risk is acceptable just to chase a play-in spot?

Whether or not it's wise for the Blazers to be cautious with injuries/recovery for their top performers, and whether or not there is value in tanking this season going into a "weak draft" are (in my mind) two completely different questions. Is it important to identify the primary impetus for this decision? Seems both can reasonably be presumed to be factors.

not if it's a severe flare-up of P.F. Inflammation of the fascia can take many weeks to subside. And premature return to activity can return the inflammation to square one. I find it very credible that an orthopedic doctor might recommend a month away from an NBA floor. But again that was a severe case. I also find it credible that Nurkic could have been dealing with PF for a while, but suddenly the condition became severe

but as I pointed out, it's also credible to me that Portland is using this as an excuse and Nurk is ok with it. The best asset Portland has right now may very well be their shot at a top-4 pick in the lottery. It's smart policy to try and maximize that asset

but it also leaves an option open. A month from now, on March 23, they start a 5 game home-stand. There will be 11 games left in the season and 9 of them will be against teams with worse records. And the two against better teams are the last 2 games of the season and those better teams could be resting players if their seeding is set. So, if the Blazers are still in the 10th seed or real close, I can see where the Blazers may say fuck-it, and bring back Dame and Nurk while activating Bledsoe. I just can't see the Blazers getting any higher than the 7th seed of the lottery; and that will be hard because other teams will be better at tanking

There's really no risk in playing Nurk, it's just if he's willing to endure the pain and then rest and rehab in the off season. Plantar faciitis doesn't derail careers. As far as Dame's injury goes the recommended recovery time for the surgery is up today. So he should be capable of doing whatever he wants. Obviously being cleared right now for full activity means he would have to get his conditioning back but that's about it.

Make no mistake about it if we're holding Nurk out for a minimum or four weeks and considering sitting Dame the rest of this season, we're doing it in an attempt to get better draft position but with our schedule being what it is March 20th through April 4th we could really fuck that up.

IMO worst case scenario for this off season is that we don't get the Pelicans pick because it's top 4 and we get our pick at 11-13 with all of our future picks frozen because of the conditions on what we owe the Bulls. What the fuck are we going to do with that huge TPE and the 11th pick in this draft? I guess if we're really confident in what we'll have next season, we could trade the Bulls our second rounder for them to take the conditions off the pick we owe them and that would free up all of our future firsts 2025 and after.
