The AK-47 is one of the most popular guns in the world. What has been restricted is the import of new AKs from Russia. There are tens of millions of used AKs in the world. If you insist on owning a brand new AK you can buy a Bulgarian, Romanian or Hungarian made AK. Some experts actually believe that the AKs manufactured in those countries are a better made gun. Maris is saying that because of import restrictions on new Russian made AKs the prices on all AKs will increase by 20x their pre import restricted price. That won't happen. You could go to a different country, buy a new Russian AK, fire one round from it and then sell it to a US gun dealer as a used Russian made AK. That is perfectly legal under the new import restrictions.

AKs are perfectly legal to own in the US. If someone wants one they can buy one. This is not the oh fuck moment you are portraying it to be.

Most "Oh F#¢%" moments are actually the result of several "ho hum" moments that preceded them. I think the concern is that this is one of a series of ho hums that will lead to an eventual oh f#¢%.

After a few years several other changes in legislation led to an extended list of banned sporterized weapons. Weapons on that particular list were no longer allowed to be imported into the United States. On this list many Kalashnikov based sporterized weapon were included. After several restrictions regarding sporting arms in 2004 there was the sunset provision. With the sunset provision the Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired however it remained impossible to import sporterized assault rifle into the United States. For that reason several small arms manufacturers started production of Kalashnikov based weapons within the U.S. borders. Not only the production of Kalashnikov AK type weapons was started also AK derivatives like the SIG 556. The SIG 556 series is one of the many AK derivatives.

I can see that. I'm a gun owner myself, I believe in gun rights. But the claims that Maris is making are complete BS and are not supported by fact or common sense.

I don't see that happening with guns. An "oh fuck" moment with this topic will be challenged as unconstitutional. Heck ho hum moments get challenged as unconstitutional when it comes to firearms.

That's because you don't understand The Second Amendment, nor it's purpose. Nor are you aware of current laws apparently.

Ho-hum moments have happened non-stop since it's enactment. There are currently tens of thousands of laws, regulations, requirements, restrictions, waiting periods, sanctions...currently infringing our Second Amendment rights.

As for the one that said you cannot own an rpg, that is false. In fact, any U.S. citizen can obtain even tanks if they file the proper paperwork. Although, your state has separate regulations (California is pretty strict).

Depends on State laws. Federally, machine guns are registered under the National Firearms Act of '34, and to be legally transferable for civilian ownership it needs to have been registered before the registry closed in 1986. $200 tax and a Form 4 to register.

For an RPG, it'd be an Explosive Destructive Device... assuming it was legally imported, again, $200 and a Form 4.

Let's say you could get somebody to sell you an Abrams, roll-away, just as a thought experiment. The coaxial 7.62 and the commander's hatch gun would be illegal MG's and have to be scrapped, the main gun at greater than 1/2" bore and no sporting purpose is a Large Bore Destructive Device ($200 and a Form 4), and each shell is an Explosive DD (which means $200 and a Form 4 EACH). And, oh by the way, you ALSO have to make sure it's kosher under all State and Local laws too...

EDIT: You can buy an RPG under the National Firearms Act as a "Destructive Device", following an FBI/BATF background check and the receipt of a 200.00 tax.

You're going to turn your gun into a belt?

You do have the hips for it.

She's waiting for you to add The 19th Amendment before she goes down on you, isn't she?
