Thanks for the info. In that case if we get a lottery pick I'd try and get Gordon (I'm not a big Nelson guy). If we land him I'd let McInnis walk. So you think SA will let Turkoglu leave? Kind of unusual since he's starting over Ginobili, although Manu is probably the better player.
Ginobili coming off the bench is similar to Williams coming off the bench for the Cavs. Its not that they aren't good enough to be the starters, its just that they are more valuable providing a scoring lift off the bench. Ginobili is used to spark the bench bunch and give them a better scoring option while the likes of Duncan and Parker are getting a rest.
why would you let mcinnis walk? he's been everything we've needed recently and he's one of the older vets on this young team
If I've heard correctly Silas wants a scoring point guard, much like Davis was for him in Charlotte/New Orleans. Gordon fits that role nicely. McInnis is not a scoring point guard, although he has done a nice job. I wouldn't be upset if they kept him.
Ron Mercer? I was thinking about him and the cavs getting him he is a pretty good shooter. Not a 3 pt shooter but a good mid range shooter and slasher. What are ur thoughts? he can play the 2 and 3.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting insshc:</div><div class="quote_post">the majority feels we should let mcinnis go?? what</div> Na, the majority is being won over by Jeff's play, no other way to put it.

it still doesn't make sense to me, but that's all right, thanks for clarifying for me =] mcinnis is a keeper check this: McInnis has 29 assists and three turnovers in his last three games.
At first I looked at McInnis as a stopgap. Now that he is showing he can hit the outside shot and has added a couple feet to his range, he has become a very valuable scoring option. His lack of TOs is big and his ability to penetrate and dish or hit a pull up jumper is huge. He's not a top notch NBA PG, but I think he can get the job done for us. Of course if something better comes along, we jump on it, but right now are most pressing need is a small forward who can score.
Who to protect? With the expansion draft this summer, we get to protect 8 players from our roster from Charlotte. Only one player by rule is allowed to be taken from each team. 1. Lebron 2. Boozer 3. McInnis (assuming we resign him) 4. Wagner 5. Battie 6. Williams (see McInnis) 7. Diop 8. Z 9. Kapono (hate to lose him) 10. Ollie (please take him and his contract) 11. Newble (see Ollie) 12. Brown 13. Bremer 15. Bumtje whatever.....
Pretty close to the mark there HardCore My list : 1. James 2. Ilgauskas 3. Boozer 4. McInnis (we have option, dont need to resign) 5. Wagner 6. Battie (he can play center so protect him) 7. Diop (see Battie) 8. Williams (should we choose to resign him. I say chase Stephon Jackson) Ollie, Kapono, Newble and Brown I wouldn't mind aboard but you have to draw the line somewhere. Kapono may get snapped up as he is a good shooter the Bobcats may require. Ollie and Newble's contracts are too long for us to seriously think they will be snapped up!

The Cavs can't protect Eric Williams because he is an unrestricted free agent. Ollie and Newble aren't attractive contracts to the Bobcats. I don't think they want to sign guys with several years left on their deals who aren't even starters. Kedrick is the only guy that I could see the Bobcats taking from our team. Assuming Kapono is protected...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting redscoon:</div><div class="quote_post"> Kedrick is the only guy that I could see the Bobcats taking from our team. BTW : does this list of 8 become public, or is it behind closed doors???
Personally, I'd protect Kapono over Diop, mostly based on value. In the beginning of the year it looked like Z was so soft on D and that Diop was improving at a quick rate, but with Z's improved D and Diop levlled off play, I don't see his upside as much. Then, factor in value. Kapono's salry will be around 400-500,000 next year while Diop will be some where in the 3 million range. If Charlotte where to take Diop's 3 million we're in that much better shape as far as acquiring a big-moneyed talented player via trade/free agency or for resigning Boozer or E Will
